Selected Events in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area Friday, Sept. 29 - Tuesday, Oct 2

Here are some selected events going on in our area (Bowling Green, Kentucky) from Friday through Tuesday, September 29th through October 2nd.

A Scarecrow and friend at Cheekwood Art and Gardens in Nashville last weekend are just one of many fun scarecrows to see. See more photos of the Cheekwood Scarecrows here.

Some places in Nashville that are fun to visit include Cheekwood and the Frist Museum (Center for the Visual Arts) and the Nashville Farmer's Market downtown.

Bowling Green has great things to do this month too. Lost River Cave opens its Scarecrow Trail October 6th, Chaney's Dairy Barn has Farm Tours (and a neat store, food AND its famous ice cream), Beech Bend Park has Drag Racing, camping and lots more, Riverview at Hobson Grove will have a Knit a Scarf Workshop (See the Save The Date section at the end of this posting), and the scary Haunted Houses are revving up. 

Friday, September 28th

I just saw this on Midday Live: Extreme Wheelchair Athlete Wheels Fotheringham will be at WKU today from 1-3 at the Preston Health and Activity Center's Multipurpose Room. 745-5004. See the WKU online article here.

Cheekwood in Nashville has a great Scarecrow exhibit outdoors now. Also, there is an outdoor toy train exhibit set up. See some photos of these here.

Saturday, September 29th
Today is the fun International Festival downtown on Circus Square (downtown BG) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check their website here for more info. and a discounted admission coupon, plus Like their Facebook page.904-6339.

The Historic RailPark and Train Museum has another All Aboard! presentation today at 8:30 a.m. 745-7317.

WKU's Hardin Planetarium presents Finding Your Way Around The Autumn Sky tonight at 7 p.m. This show is free. It is first-come, first served seating.

October 5-7 is the Friends of the Library Used Book Sale at the L & N Depot.

Also October 5th is the Phantom of Van Meter cocktails and dinner party event with music by The Symphony starting at 6 p.m. 745-7681.
From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "10/6/12 South Central Kentucky Heart Walk & 5K Run will be at Kereiakes Park, Bowling Green, Ky. On October 6th 8:00 am with the walk and run starting at 9:00 am. There will be breakfast, silent auction, a Kids Zone, Dog Zone, health booths set up along with a award ceremony at the end. For more information contact Michelle Alloway at 270-846-5061."

October 6th, the new Lost River Cave Scarecrow Trail opens.

Also 10-6, From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "10/6/12 Salvation Army is hosting “Salley Scrap a Thon” at Living Hope Baptist Church Student Center, Bowling Green, Ky. Saturday, October 6th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm This is to help raise money for missionaries and a new building for the Salvation Army. The cost is $40 includes table space, breakfast, and lunch. There will be mini shops from Scrapbook Village and The Lily Pad for any scrap booking needs, also a raffles and giveaways.To secure your spot please call Ericka Morrison at 270-320-5348."

October 12th is the Gallery Hop in Bowling Green, Kentucky from 5-8 p.m. I will be there for part of it - - at the Pots Place Studio and Gallery downtown.

AND the Artistic Soul Gallery at 1014 East 11th Avenue will be showing John Carpenter posters starting October 4th, and will also be open for the Hop.

Oct. 12 is an Open Fun Horse Show happens at 10 a.m. at the Ag Expo Center.

Also October 12th is the Bids, Boots and BBQ event at the WKU Ag Expo Center from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, and $15 for 12 and under.

October 16 Knit a Scarf at Riverview! <For Boys and Girls age 8 to 80> Reservations are required.  843-5565.

Friday, August 3rd
Today is the Grateful Gathering music event at WhaBah Steakhouse. This event continues tomorrow. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. "The public is invited to join area astronomers at Western Kentucky University’s Hardin Planetarium Sunday (Aug. 5) for a free celebration of the arrival at Mars of NASA’s Curiosity rover.
Doors open at 8 p.m. and just before midnight, the event culminates with a chance to watch the live NASA-TV satellite feed from Mars Science Laboratory mission control of Curiosity’s scheduled entry, descent and 12:30 a.m. landing on Mars. Through out the night there will be Mars themed activities, speakers and exhibits for all participants to enjoy, including demonstrations of orbital mechanics, balloon-powered rocket challenges, and discussions of “The War of the Worlds” and other fictional tales of Martians or life on Mars. From twilight until about 10:30 p.m. participants may view Mars and Saturn through small telescopes."

August 14 is a Doll Quilt Workshop at Riverview at Hobson Grove from 3:30 - 6 p.m. 843-5565. You must pre-register to attend by emailing Laura Southard at riverview.at.hg@att.net. The cost is only $5.00 per person. From the City website: "In this two day workshop, each child will learn to piece together and create a small quilt for their doll's bed.".
September 29th is the International Festival.

The Kentucky Ag Expo Center is the site for the RMHA/Rockey Mountain Kentucky State Championship Horse Show which starts at 9 a.m. All admission fees this year will go to the Center for Courageous Kids. Admission is $5.00, with children 12 and under free. 745-3976.

Beech Bend Raceway has the TENN-TUCK 2012 Triple Crown racing event today starting at 8 a.m. Open time trials are at 9-10:30 a.m. Find out more: http://www.beechbend.com/dragstrip.htm.

Saturday, July 14th
Today is a Second Saturday Street Fair on historic Fountain Square in downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky from 9-4. Much fun is planned, including activities for the kids, music, food, and lots more. Bring the whole family. And say hi at The Pots Place! It's the blue building at 428 East Main, right on the Square.

Lost River Cave and Valley is having a Summer Music Festival today from 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Proceeds from this event will benefit the new Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom. Reserved tickets bought in advance are $20.00 er person or $35.00 a couple, or $25. per person at the door. Free boat tours will be offered, and there will be Southern rock music on two stages. Fun thing to do this week in Bowling Green Kentucky Sept. 25 - Oct 2, 2011

Hi again, wonderful readers and visitors!

Well, September 2011 is almost over, and there are lots of things going on around Bowling Green, Kentucky again this week.

SKyPAC Hardhat tours take place Monday - Friday until the end of the month at 4 p.m. You must pre-register to take the tour. Check on the time too. Call 393-0080.

10/15/11 Riverview at Hobson Grove, 1100 West Main, Bowling Green, presents “Victorian Skills For Young Ladies and Gentlemen,” a series of workshops for children 8-12. The Historic Railpark and Train Museum has a talk at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is invited. The talk, by Robert Lessenberry, will be about the journey and history of a rare Jim Crow segregation car now at the Railpark.
