<Sept. 20th, Thursday> "Pioneer Cemetery Lantern Tour & Bicentennial Festival
There's no better time to say 'i love bg' than this week as Bowling Green celebrates its Bicentennial. An entertaining living history event, The Pioneer Cemetery Lantern Tour, offers a glance at some of BG's formative residents. The docent-led walking tour will be offered at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. this Thursday and introduces patrons to 10 notable inhabitants of the city's first cemetery.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students/ seniors, and free for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets and gather at NAPA Auto Parts about 15 minutes before your desired tour. Visit the link below to learn more. 


Several events are planned as part of the city's Bicentennial Celebration including Friday afternoon's City Hall Open House. This event from 4 to 6 p.m. is open to the public and features food and drink in addition to announcing the student writing contest winners. 

Then on Saturday, head to Circus Square Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Bowling Green Bicentennial Festival featuring Blue Light Special, children's inflatables, a large bungee trampoline, face painting, balloon animals, food vendors, and so much more. "9/29/12 The 2012 Out Of The Darkness Community Walk , Walk to Prevent Suicide , for Bowling Green will be on Saturday, September 29th at 9:00 am at Phil Moore Park, Alvaton, Ky. For more Information call: Darrell Traugber at 270-784-0960 and check out the website at www.outofthedarkness.org."

"9/29/12 HANDS (Housing Assistance and Development Services) is sponsoring a Free Homebuyer Education Class on September 29th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Tomorrow Center in Bowling Green, Ky. Class covers several items to finding the right home to basic home maintenance. Lunch will be provided. For more information or to register for a class call: Anna Byrum at 270-796-4176 extension 1. "

September 29th is also the International Festival.

"10/6/12 South Central Kentucky Heart Walk & 5K Run will be at Kereiakes Park, Bowling Green, Ky. On October 6th 8:00 am with the walk and run starting at 9:00 am. There will be breakfast, silent auction, a Kids Zone, Dog Zone, health booths set up along with a award ceremony at the end. For more information contact Michelle Alloway at 270-846-5061."

"The public is invited to join area astronomers at Western Kentucky University’s Hardin Planetarium Sunday (Aug. 5) for a free celebration of the arrival at Mars of NASA’s Curiosity rover.
Doors open at 8 p.m. and just before midnight, the event culminates with a chance to watch the live NASA-TV satellite feed from Mars Science Laboratory mission control of Curiosity’s scheduled entry, descent and 12:30 a.m. landing on Mars. Through out the night there will be Mars themed activities, speakers and exhibits for all participants to enjoy, including demonstrations of orbital mechanics, balloon-powered rocket challenges, and discussions of “The War of the Worlds” and other fictional tales of Martians or life on Mars. From twilight until about 10:30 p.m. participants may view Mars and Saturn through small telescopes."

August 11 is Agriculture Night at Chaney's Dairy Barn - 4 - 7:30 p.m. plus Ice Cream and a Moovie.
August 11 and 12 is the Dog Agility Trial at the L.D. Brown Ag Expo Center. 745-3976.
August 14 is a Doll Quilt Workshop at Riverview at Hobson Grove from 3:30 - 6 p.m. 843-5565. You must pre-register to attend by emailing Laura Southard at riverview.at.hg@att.net. The cost is only $5.00 per person. From the City website: "In this two day workshop, each child will learn to piece together and create a small quilt for their doll's bed.".

How to register for the 8th Annual Polar Express event.

Registering for the 8th Annual Polar Express Event.

I just got this information via email.

This link tells how to register for the 8th Annual Polar Express storytime event at the Historic Railpark and Train Museum on November 11th.

How to register for the Polar Express event this year.

Their logo for this event shows the dates of this event: December 5, 6, 7, and 12,13, 14. It was a very popular event last year.










What is the Polar Express event?

It is a free event (you must pre-register) where readings are held of the popular Polar Express book inside of a real train car.

Chaney's Pumpkin Pickin' Festival continues today. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Click here to see all the activities and prices. They also have a Corn Maze through the end of the month. From the Macaroni Kid site:
"Chaney’s Corn Maze is back again! Come join Chaney’s and explore the corn maze either during the day or at night. Everyone must have a ell phone when they go into the maze. Chaney’s recommends trying the maze at night, when it is more challenging but remember to bring a flashlight. The maze is open during regular business hours Monday - Saturday 7am - 9 pm and Sunday 12 pm - 8 pm."

The Warren County Asylum Haunted house starts today (in the old Reservoir Hill Lifeskills bldg.) The Warren County Asylum Haunted House is open from 7-10 at the old Lifeskills building on Reservoir Hill. Volunteer actors are needed. Call Jen at 393-4750.

Saturday, October 8th
The last Second Saturday of the year is today on Fountain Square Park from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be face painting, Sidewalk Sales, booths, horse and carriage rides, Balloon Twisting and more. Come down for the last Second Saturday this year and see the new shops on the square including Tea Squares and Meo's Collection.

Second Saturday Street Fairs are held around Fountain Square Park. The Downtown Merchants and Professionals organize the event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every second Saturday beginning in April through October. There are inflatables and games for kids, horse and carriage rides, both for a modest fee. There is live music, face painting, balloon twisting, food vendors, product vendor booths and more, that will all combine for fun and excitement.  Also look for sidewalk sales by merchants, all in a festive atmosphere that brings back memories of a bustling Downtown area.

10/15/11 Riverview at Hobson Grove, 1100 West Main, Bowling Green, presents “Victorian Skills For Young Ladies and Gentlemen,” a series of workshops for children 8-12. Participants will learn a traditional Victorian hand craft. Workshops are on Saturdays, Oct. 15, Oct. 22, and Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. each day. Reservations are required and fees apply. Wednesday, November 24th
At 9-4 today is a viewing of the WKU Student organizations Holiday Trees at the WKU Library and Museum's Kentucky Room. Call 745-6082 for more info.
An After School Special will be held at the Graham Drive Community Branch library at 3:30 p.m. for students of all ages. Call 781-1441 for more info.
The Skate Box is having an Old School and Jam Skaters event from 7-11 p.m. You must have your own skates. $5.00 per person. 843-3394.

Thursday, November 25th
Thanksgiving!

From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "11/25/10 24th Annual Great Turkey 5k Run & 3K Walk will be at Keriakes Park, Bowling Green, Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25. Awards include medals, pottery, turkeys, and fresh pies. This event is the sole source of funding for the BG Road Runners WKU student athlete scholarships. For more information and early registration visit www.bgrr.com."

From the Country Peddler: State Street UMC and First Christian Church are having a free meal on Thanksgiving for "those who may be alone or unable to prepare a meal." Also: "Walk-ins are welcome for dining in at First Christian Church at the corner of State and 11th streets from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Please call 843-3191 or 303-3251 before November 19 for delivery requests."

Runner's is having a Thanksgiving meal plus Christmas auction on Thanksgiving Day at 4 p.m. Cash prizes and giveaways plus the auction will be going on. The location is in Rockfield, at the Old Rock Mart/Jr. Foods Building at 7493 Russellville Road. The raffle costs $10.00 and the prizes are $500 in cash or a moped. Contact Craig at 270-784-9160. 7th Street Baptist Church in Bowling Green is also having Thanksgiving for the homeless on Thanksgiving from 11-2.

The Pots Place downtown on Fountain Square will be open with lots of new pots available, PLUS a sales shelf. Come visit! We have new holiday windows I helped with, plus a tree.

Saturday, November 27th
The Historic RailPark and Train museum has a free event featuring Chris Gadbois sharing his collection of railroad advertisements and the history of railroad marketing at 8:30 a.m. 745-7317.
A South Indian Dance performance featuring Shankaran Mahadevan, classical Carnatic/Bharatanatyam dancer, will take place at South Warren High School Auditorium (BG) from 4 - 5:15 p.m. Adult tickets are $6.00 and students and children are $3.00. The National Corvette Museum has a Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus event today at 9 a.m. From the NCM website: "Activities include holiday music, a Nutcracker Ballet performance by WKU Dept. of Dance, arts and crafts activities, a hot buffet breakfast, IGA Land of Sweets and arrival of Santa in a red Corvette! December 11th and 18th: Chaney's Dairy Barn is having a Breakfast with Santa event from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. both days. It is a reservation-only event. You can call to reserve a spot starting on November 1st. (From the website: "Reservations will guarantee a seat, but not where you will sit").


November 30th, there will have a Christmas Card Workshop at Riverview at Hobson Grove.
