These are some selected events in the Western Kentucky area for this week. Some are FREE computer classes for the community. You must pre-register to attend these. Many other events in the area are also free or cheap or donations to a good cause.

Monday, July 11th
Today (and Fridays) Chaney's Dairy Barn has Farm Tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 854-5567. http://www.chaneysdairybarn.com.

The Bowling Green Main branch library has a West African Dance Demonstration and Workshop today at 6 p.m. All ages are welcome. Find out more: 781-4882.

The Kentucky Blues Society has a TEEN JAM at the WhaBah Steakhouse from 6-9 p.m. Families are welcome. 782-6400.

Tuesday, July 12th
The Medical Center Health and Wellness Center has a Kids on the Block First Aid and Emergencies session from 10-11 a.m. Find out more: 745-0942 and make sure there is room. Pre-registration MAY be required.

A free computer class is today at the Main Branch library from 2-3 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

SkyPac has a free hard hat tour today at 4 p.m. They also have one on Thursday. You must make a reservation to attend. Call 393-0080 for more information.

Dorothea Benton Frank is talking at 6 p.m. tonight at either the Main Branch library OR the Christ Episcopal Church (next door to the Main Branch library) today. You must have a free ticket, which you can pick up at any library location. 781-4882.

Another free computer class, Ebay for Beginners, is today from 6-7 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

Wednesday, July 13th
A Guys Read Wednesday event is today at 2:30 p.m. at the Main Branch library for ages 8-13. Call 781-4882, extension 215 for more info.

A Graham Troopers meeting is at 3 p.m. at the Graham Drive Branch library today for school-age students. 781-1441.

Thursday, July 14th
There is a free computer class today, Job Hunting Online, at 9-10:30 a.m. at the Main Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

SkyPac has a free hard hat tour today at 4 p.m. You must make a reservation to attend. Call 393-0080 for more information.

Teen Thursday is at 5 p.m. at the Graham Drive Branch library. Call 781-1441 for more info.

There is a High Five Kids Club meeting today at 4 p.m. for ages K-5. You must pre-register to attend by calling 781-4882, extension 212.

The WKU Chess Club meets from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Log Cabin on the WKU Campus. All ages and skill levels are welcome.  Questions, call 918-809-6278. You may want to bring your chess set.

The Bowling Green League of Bicyclists has an Easy Ride at 6 p.m. You must wear a helmet. The group meets at 6 p.m. at Kereiakes Park. http://www.BGLOB.com.

Friday, July 15th

Events for the whole week: Cram the Corvette: bring school supplies for needy kids to the Corvette parked at the National Corvette Museum. This car will be part of the big "Cram the Bus" event. 781-7973.

Beech Bend Park is open! They have a lot of events, races and more going on this month. Beech Bend is an amusement park, campground, and has a drag racing strip and oval track too! Check out their site to find out more. http://www.beechbend.com. I just picked up a brochure. So you know, all-day passes that include everything except go-carts and games are 29.99 for adults and 25.99 for children under 54 inches and seniors any size.

Find 6 squirrels at participating shops in Fountain Square through the 31st and win a big, big Surprise Basket filled with neat things. Just find 6 squirrels at shops downtown.

"Kentucky Museum, April 15 – May 14, Department of Art Spring Graduating Seniors Exhibition
From Graphic Design to Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Weaving, Ceramics and Sculpture, this group exhibition, co-sponsored and hosted by the Kentucky Library and Museum, presents the work of the Department of Art’s Seniors graduating in the Spring of 2011. Saturday, May 14: Closing Reception".

Granville Mitchell will exhibit his art at the Warren County (Main Branch) Public Library from 8-8 at the Porter Cafe through April 29th.

GARDEN PLOTS / SPRING BREAK CAMP / WATERPARK PASSES: Signups are going on for BG Parks and Rec Garden Plots at Keriakes Park 393-3249, BG Parks and Rec Spring Break Camps 393-3249, and Russell Sims Water park passes, 393-3249. If you want a garden plot, register early because these run out fast.

From the WCVK Community pages: "4/28/11 American Business Women’s Association will have a Bar-B-Q Fest at The Presbyterian Church, 1003 State St., Bowling Green, April 28, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $7 for meal which includes pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, drink, and dessert. The C5/C6 Bash continues at the National Corvette Museum.

An event, Music, Moxie, and Mayhem (Or: Revolution Rocks) is today at 4:00 to midnight at Circus Square Park sponsored by Revolution 91.7 radio. This is a benefit for Moss Middle School's music program. Donations will be accepted. 

Phil Moore Park has an Arbor Day Celebration today from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Planting, craft tables, learning stations, and more will be there. Call Lisa Clary at 843-6665 for more info.

A free singing recital, Broadway and beyond,  is today at WKU's FAC Recital Hall featuring Liza Kelly and Tracey Moore. 745-3751. 

Also, the WKU Concert Band and Wind Ensemble perform from 7:30 - 9:30 at Van Meter OR Ivan Wilson Center FAC 0189. (check time and place - another event listing says 7:30 - 9:00 and gives another location). Tickets are $5.00 apiece. 745-3751.

Bowling Green High School is sponsoring Area 5 Special Olympic Spring Games starting at 8 a.m. Volunteers are needed. 393-3265.

 The play Driving Miss Daisy is at 8:00 p.m. at the Public Theater of Kentucky. 781-6233.  

The Grand Opening of Lost River Cave's Wildflower Gift Shop is today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An Aquafina Pitch Hit and Run event is today at the BG Ball Park from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for boys and girls 7-14 years old.  Details: 393-3574.

The Plant Lady will talk at the Wild Bird and Nature Store, 901 Lehman Ave., at 11 a.m. today as part of their Herb Festival.

Tonight is an Evening of Dance at Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center (FAC) Russell Miller Theater from 8-10 p.m. For more info, contact Doris.Patrick@wku.edu. It is also being shown  Sunday afternoon. 

A Taste of Latin America event is today at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 7 p.m. (4754 Smallhouse Road) to benefit a Latino attending WKU. Tickets are $35.00 per person or $60.00 for a couple. Sunday, May 1st

The Baker Chamber players play at 3 p.m. today at the Downing Museum at the Baker Arboretum. More info: http://www.bgwso.org/index.htm.  A reception will follow. Tickets are $50.00 per person, and seating is limited to 50 people.

The play Driving Miss Daisy is at 8:00 p.m. at the Public Theater of Kentucky. 781-6233.

This is Celebrity Scoop day at Chaney's Dairy Barn from 1-4 p.m.  This event benefits St. Jude's Children's hospital.

May 14th will be the Second Saturday downtown event for May, with Snow cones, Hawaiian ice, face painting, booths, music, balloon twisting, inflatables for the kids, and more.
Also May 14th is the Victorian Antique and Garden Festival from 9-4 at Hobson Grove.
The Wild Bird and Nature store at 901 Lehman Avenue has an Herb Festival Thursday, April 28 – Sunday May 8th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
May 2nd will be the first Apron Extravaganza.
May 20th WKU will officially open the Confucious Institute and the Chinese Learning Center.
May 21st is the Soap Box Derby.
May 21st is also a Vette City Roller Derby game. 
May 28th = the West Side Camp BBQ and Backyard Grilling Cook-Off

A big welcome goes out to the Sweet Sixteen Tournament this week, March 9-12.

The VSA (Very Special Arts) Exhibit is free and open to the public at the Garden Gallery at the Kentucky Library and Museum this month until March 21st. 745-2592.

Kendall McMinimy is showing his art at the WKU Ivan Wilson FAC Corridor Gallery from Feb. 16-March 23rd. 745-3944.

Kay Zoretic's jewelry is exhibited at the Warren County Library main branch this month through February 28th. 781-4882.

ART EXHIBITS THIS MONTH

Kristina Arnold's "re cycle" exhibit shows this week at the Capital Arts center from 9-5. 782-2787.

The Gallery at 916 has a Photography exhibit this week from 11:30 a.m. - 5p.m. through February 12th. Voting is $1.00 and goes to CASA. 270-843-5511.

Warren County Library's Bob Kirby branch has an exhibit by Missi Carini and Jenny Morehead through January 28th.

Brenda Brown's art will be shown at the Main Branch library in the Porter Cafe through January 28th too.

The Country Peddler Design-an-Ad Contest  is on exhibit at the Mezzanine Gallery at the Capital Arts Center this month. 782-2787.

Here are more cheap and free things to do this week in the Bowling Green area and near Bowling Green, Kentucky. I have selected just a few events to list here.

What's Happening this week: From the WBKO Community Events Calendar: Art Works Exhibit 8:30 am - 4 pm, The Presbyterian Church, 10th St. Entrance, 10th and State Sts., Bowling Green, KY.
