Version D / 2011 events in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky for January 2-8

Hi to everyone.

Here are more cheap and free things to do this week in the Bowling Green area and near Bowling Green, Kentucky. I have selected just a few events to list here.

I added another event today (Thursday). JUST ADDED: Downton Abbey premieres Sunday on PBS Masterpiece Theater. You can get it even with just basic cable. It is bound to be good. Check it out here.  Twitter will have a live event during the showing. Just post to twitter using the tag #DowntonPBS.

What's Happening this week: From the WBKO Community Events Calendar: Art Works Exhibit 8:30 am - 4 pm, The Presbyterian Church, 10th St. Entrance, 10th and State Sts., Bowling Green, KY. The Presbyterian Church Gallery is presenting the Third Annual Artworks Exhibit featuring a variety of works by members of Artworks Inc., an organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing visual art in the community...The exhibit may be viewed by the public in the church gallery, 10th Street entrance, Mon. to Fri. 8:30am to 4:00pm. The church is located at the corner of 10th and State Sts., Bowling Green KY. Diane Simmons 270-842-1794; 270-791-0819

Chaney's Dairy Barn is starting to serve breakfast items this month.  270-843-5567.

Lost River Cave's hours this month are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gift Shop is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tours of the Cave are at the top of each hour.

Monday, January 3rd

Tuesday January 4th

Music & Entertainment - Children are invited to dress in their best, enjoy cookies, punch and dancing. Space is limited so call ahead to pre-register at 270-782 0252. http://www.warrenpl.org

A free computer class takes place today at the Porter Cafe at the Main Library from 2-3:30 p.m. It is Microsoft Excel Basics. You must pre-register.  Call 781-4882.


The Snow Ball is today at 6 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch library. Registration is required. For elementary school children. 782-0252.
Wednesday, January 5th

A free computer class in Email Basics is today from 2-3 p.m. at the Main Branch Porter Cafe. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882. 


Another free computer class is offered today at the Bob Kirby branch library from 3-4 p.m., Genealogy Sources Online. You must pre-register by calling 782-0252.


A Chili Cookoff is being held at 6 p.m at the St. James United Methodist Church at 575 Winfield Drive, BG. This is near Keriakes Park. Call for details at 842-4949. Bring chili or sample chili. Awards will be given too.


A free computer class, Intermediate Computers and the Internet is being held from 6-7 p.m. at the Main Branch library Porter Cafe. You must call to pre-register at 781-4882.

Thursday, January 6th

WKU Men's Basketball has A Night for Heroes at 7 p.m. at Diddle Arena. Police officers, veterans, military personnel, and EMT techs can buy unlimited $5.00 tickets. Call 1-800-5 BIG RED for more information.

Friday, January 7th

A Free MacBook computer class is being held today at the Bob Kirby Branch library from 2-3 p.m. The class is Overdrive Digital Catalog. You must pre-register to attend; call 782-0252. 

A reception for artist Kristina Arnold is at 5-7 p.m. at the Capital Arts Center, BG. 782-2787. 

Saturday, January 8th
From the WCVK Community Happenings page: "1/8/11 Benefit for Crusade for Children will be a Chaney’s Dairy Barn, 9191 Nashville Rd., Bowling Green, Jan. 8, 6-8 p.m. There will be music by Dan Modlin & Pat Haney. A portion of the sales will benefit Crusade for Children. For more information call 843-5567."

From the WBKO Community Events Calendar: This is GO Shopping Day on the Bowling Green community buses. "GO Shopping! Jan 8, 2011 9 am - 4 pm, 921 Beauty Ave., Bowling Green, KY
Go Shopping with Go bg transit. The next GO Shopping Shuttle will be Saturday, January 8, from 9 am to 4 pm. Two shuttles serve numerous shopping and dining locations. New - just posted - today is also the Health and Wellness Expo from 8 a.m. to noon at Sloan Convention Center. Door prizes, screenings, demos, presentations will all take place this morning.  Call 745-1010 for more information.

Greenwood Spirits Shoppe has a Wine and Cheese Tasting tonight from 4-6 p.m. Also, all Chuck's Liquor outlets will have a Wine Tasting from 4-8.

Sunday, January 9th

Til Further Notice Madison Ave. General Baptist Church, 1617 Madison Ave., Bowling Green, serves a free hot breakfast the 2nd and last Saturdays of each month, 8-10 a.m. They have sausage, biscuits and gravy, eggs, taters, and coffee. All are welcome. For more information call 303-0530.
