I have some events here for the next week you may like. I am going to limit it to mostly Cheap or Free events. To see everything going on this week, check out the links to the right and/or get a Soky Happenings magazine at Barnes and Noble or another location.

11-1-11 through 11-30-2011: This is Military Appreciation Month at the Corvette Museum. From the KentuckyLiving site: "All those who have served and their immediate families receive free museum admission."

Tuesday, November 8th




Today is Election Day! Go to vote at your polling place and tonight will be more exciting, as you watch to see who won.

Also: make sure to have Beans and Cornbread downtown at the Presbyterian Church. The BG Noon Lions put it on so it will be a Good Deed to go. Plus, the food is GREAT. I love their corn cakes. Mmmmmm.....


Library events today at the Main branch library include Toddler time at the Main Branch library, Preschool Spanish at 11:30 a.m. and the Lego Club at 6 p.m. for ages 5 and up. 781-4882.

The Graham Book Club will discuss Runaway Stories by Alice Munro at 6 p.m. 781-1441.

A free computer class is offered at the Bob Kirby branch library, Ebay for Beginners from 6-7 p.m. you must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

Fountain Square Players have auditions at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 313 State Street (per their Facebook page and online site) for their play, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. People may also sign up for set construction, stage crew, costume makers, and props people today. This play will be shown on January 5-8, 2012. Call for more details: 782-3119.

Wednesday, November 9th




The WKU Chess Club meets today from 9 a.m. to noon at Barnes and Noble. The public is invited. You may want to bring your chess set. Ask about it: 918-809-6278.

The Graham Branch library has Graham Troopers today at 3 p.m. for school-age students. 781-1441.

The Main Branch library has 'Be a Star" for grades 5-12 at 4:00 p.m. today. This is a new drama troupe, and no experience is necessary. 781-4882.

The Presbyterian Church has a movie "Lemon Tree" followed by a discussion led by Dr Ingrid Lilly, scholar of religious studies at WKU. Call for more info: 745-5755.

The Kentucky Museum at WKU has a presentation at 7 p.m. "Lincoln and Secession". 745-2592.

WKU has a Percussion Ensemble concert at 7:30 at the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Tickets are only $4.00 a person.  745-3751.

Thursday, November 10th

  


The High Five Kids Club (for kids age K-5) meets today at  4 p.m. at the Main Branch library.

Teen Thursday is today at the Graham Drive branch library at 5 p.m. for grades 6-12. 781-1441.

The Main Branch library has Peek-A-Boo Babies at 9:30 a.m. for babies ages 6-18 months, and Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. 781-4882.

The Bob Kirby branch library has Preschool Spanish for ages 3-5 years at 9:30 a.m. 782-0252.

Fountain Square shops downtown have Veterans Day Specials today starting at 10 a.m.

The Historic RailPark and Train Museum has an Open House today from 11-7 to see the new RailCar. More info: 756-7317 or http://www.historicrailpark.com.

A free math and science class is today at the ALIVE Center on Nashville Road from 4-5 p.m. This is for grades 5-8. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221. 


WKU has Friday Night with REDZ. This event is only $5.00 without a WKU ID. The public is invited. Billairds, ping pong, bowling, more. Call for more info: 745-2456.


The BG Western Choral Society and the WKU chorale along with Harpeth Rising, a bluegrass band, will perform at WKU's Van Meter Auditoium at 730 p.m., performing  A Bluegrass Mass. tickets are $10.00 for general admission, $8.00 for seniors, and $5.00 for students. 745-5301.


Blood Relations, a play re-imagining the Lizzie Borden murders is at 8 p.m. at the Phoenix Theater. Tickets are $10.00 and $15.00.  


Saturday, November 12th





Christmas for the Soldiers is today at Phil Moore Park. Help gather care packages, and support the troops. Also there will be food and entertainment. Find out more: 270-320-3152.

Today is the Rockfield United Methodist Church Women's Christmas Bazaar from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are located at 682 Richpond Rockfield Road. 842-7788. They will offer a Farmer's Breakfast and a holiday-style lunch, plus vendors and a silent auction.


St. James UMC also has a Holiday Fall Craft Bazaar from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. They also will serve breakfast and lunch. 575 Winfield Drive, just down from Keriakes Park. 842-4949.


Super Sib day is from 9-1 today at the Suzanne Vitale complex at WKU. This day features activities for siblings of children with special needs. Find out more: 745-2784.


Briarwood Elementary School has a Craft Sale today at 265 Lovers Lane (1st ever) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 782-5554. From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: 11/12/11 Briarwood Elementary School will have their craft show on November 12th at 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. so come and enjoy a time of shopping and over 40 of Bowling Green’s local artist and vendors. Fun things to do in the Bowling Green, Ky area August 14th - 21st.
The Main Library is closed through the 17th due to renovations. The other branches are open.

The Capital Arts theater  at 416 East Main downtown shows Les Miserables today at 3 p.m., presented by the Capital Arts Youth Theater. Tickets are $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for students, and $6.00 for children 12 and under.

"Bowling Green City officials and staff, plus residents, go on a Summer Stroll today. 393-3674 Here is the info. from the City website (cached): "The Summer Stroll series will continue Monday night, July 18 with a neighborhood walk in a portion of Bowling Green's West End. Walkers will meet at 7:00 p.m. at The Foundry Community Development Center, which is located in the former Boys & Girls Club building at 531 West 11th Avenue.

The Stroll will be hosted by the Foundry, Habitat for Humanity, Corazones Cristianos, and neighbors in the area who are interested in forming a neighborhood organization. Participants in the City's ongoing Hispanic Focus Group series have also been invited to attend. Monday night's stroll will give neighborhood residents the opportunity to meet one another and to talk one on one with officials and point out the neighborhood's opportunities, accomplishments, and concerns. The Stroll route will include West 11th Avenue and portions of Clay Street, West 14th Avenue, Stubbins, Woodford, and Vine Streets...

March and April Squirrels in the Square:
Find 6 squirrels at participating shops in Fountain Square through the 31st and win a big, big Surprise Basket filled with neat things. Just find 6 squirrels at shops downtown and turn the card in to Candlemakers on the Square. They have more entry forms too, so pick one up today. April will continue this promotion with different hiding places for the cute squirrels. The artists at The Pots Place made these!
