Hi to all!  I list weekly selected events, plus other things to do in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area and sometimes in Nashville or surrounding communities.

Bowling Green Hot Rods Baseball has special events during the week this summer. In April they have MinitMart Mondays, All-you-can-eat Tuesdays, Wild Wednesdays, Thrifty Thursdays, Fun Fridays, and Saturday Fireworks. Find out more at

Beech Bend Park is open! They have a lot of events, races and more going on this month. Beech Bend is an amusement park, campground, and has a drag racing strip and oval track too! Check out their site to find out more. I just picked up a brochure. So you know, all-day passes that include everything except go-carts and games are 29.99 for adults and 25.99 for children under 54 inches and seniors any size.

New - the Kentucky Library Summer Day Camps are taking signups. Space is limited. Find out if there are more spots available:

Have you been inside Morris Jewelry in downtown Fountain Square, Bowling Green? I stopped in the other day and was it ever beautiful inside! Now to earn some more money to spend there... :-) Here is their website:

April Squirrels in the Square:
Find 6 squirrels at participating shops in Fountain Square through the 31st and win a big, big Surprise Basket filled with neat things. Just find 6 squirrels at shops downtown.

"Kentucky Museum, April 15 – May 14, Department of Art Spring Graduating Seniors Exhibition
From Graphic Design to Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Weaving, Ceramics and Sculpture, this group exhibition, co-sponsored and hosted by the Kentucky Library and Museum, presents the work of the Department of Art’s Seniors graduating in the Spring of 2011. Saturday, May 14: Closing Reception".

From the WCVK Community pages: "Now-4/29 The Gallery at 916 State Street, Bowling Green, and five local churches present 'Meditations on the Holy Cross' an art exhibit by Prof. John Warren Oakes, WKU Art Dept., depicting the crucifixion in several different media. Isabelle Barbuzza is having her an exhibition through May 13th at the WKU Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Main Gallery. 745-3944. 

The Graduating Art Seniors from WKU have their exhibit April 15th through May 14th at the Kentucky Museum. 745-3944. 

Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center (FAC) at Western will have a Visiting Artist Exhibition from April 1st through May 14th at the FAC Corridor Gallery. 745-3944,

The Bob Kirby Branch Library will show Gayle Novick's work through April 29th. 782-0252.

Photographs from Safe Haven will continue to be shown from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the ArtsAccess Gallery at 515 East 10th Ave., BG. Monday through Friday. 781-0872.

Granville Mitchell will exhibit his art at the Warren County (Main Branch) Public Library from 8-8 at the Porter Cafe through April 29th.

GARDEN PLOTS / SPRING BREAK CAMP / WATERPARK PASSES: Signups are going on for BG Parks and Rec Garden Plots at Keriakes Park 393-3249, BG Parks and Rec Spring Break Camps 393-3249, and Russell Sims Water park passes, 393-3249. If you want a garden plot, register early because these run out fast.

Signups are taking place for a Fiction Workshop June 13th - July 9th for advanced undergraduate and graduate students at WKU Extended Learning and Outreach. "Release Your Creative Talents!"Contact Dr. David Bell at 745-4406 or email him at for more information.

Russell Sims Water Park is having a Pre-Season Pass Sale this month until the 29th. Individuals are $75.00 and a family of 4 is $175. If you sign up now you also get a free pass to the BGPR Fitness Center. Opening Day is May 21st.  393-3249.

Driving Miss Daisy is coming to the PTK April 15th and will continue through May 1st.

Sunburst Youth Theater Day Camp 2011 will take place June 6-17.

Thursday, April 28th
The Corvette Museum C5/C6 Bash starts today at 9 a.m.  at the Corvete Museum. Call for details 781-7973.

From the WCVK Community pages: "4/28/11 American Business Women’s Association will have a Bar-B-Q Fest at The Presbyterian Church, 1003 State St., Bowling Green, April 28, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $7 for meal which includes pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, drink, and dessert. Proceeds benefit ABWA Educational Scholarship. Delivery for 10 or more meals is available by calling 779-6239 or 791-2368 by April 27." 

Lost River Cave on Nashville Road has a Sip and Shop event today at 5-7 p.m. with live music and door prizes. Check out their site to find out how to get a discount.

Another free computer class is today from 9-10 a.m. at the Main Branch library "Introduction to Computers and the Internet". You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

A free MacBook computer class,  Introduction to IPhoto, is today from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

A free computer class, Beginning your Resume, is today from 6-7 p.m. at the Main Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

The WKU Chess club meets from 6-9 p.m. at the WKU Faculty House for all skill levels. You may need to bring your own chess set. Call for more info: 918-809-6278. The public is welcome.

Capital Arts has a fundraiser tonight for Orchestra Kentucky, One of These Nights: A Tribute to the Eagles at 7 p.m. 846-2426.

A CASA lunch is today at 11:30 - 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 911 Searcy Way to raise awareness of Court Appointed Special Advocates for children. Donations are accepted.  782-5353.

Friday, April 29th
The WKU Ag Expo center has a Big Dawg Goat Sale today starting at 8 a.m. Call for info: 745-3976. 

The C5/C6 Bash continues at the National Corvette Museum.

An event, Music, Moxie, and Mayhem (Or: Revolution Rocks) is today at 4:00 to midnight at Circus Square Park sponsored by Revolution 91.7 radio. This is a benefit for Moss Middle School's music program. Donations will be accepted. 

Phil Moore Park has an Arbor Day Celebration today from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Planting, craft tables, learning stations, and more will be there. Call Lisa Clary at 843-6665 for more info.

A free singing recital, Broadway and beyond,  is today at WKU's FAC Recital Hall featuring Liza Kelly and Tracey Moore. 745-3751. 

Also, the WKU Concert Band and Wind Ensemble perform from 7:30 - 9:30 at Van Meter OR Ivan Wilson Center FAC 0189. (check time and place - another event listing says 7:30 - 9:00 and gives another location). Tickets are $5.00 apiece. 745-3751.

The Mint Jubilee benefit Gala and Dinner for St. Joseph School is at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. You must have a reservation to attend. It is $40.00 per person or $75.00 per couple. Find out more: 842-1235 (St. Joseph School).

From the WCVK Community pages:  "4/30/11 Planted Statewide girls conference for middle and high school girls will be at Living Hope Baptist Church, Bowling Green, April 30, 9 a.m. Featured speaker will be Leslie Hollowell, Bellvue Baptist Church, Memphis, TN. There will be breakout sessions including How to Study Your Bible, Accountability, Devotion Time, Relationships, and Identity in Christ. Scottsville, Kentucky has Jacksonian Days today with many events.

Bowling Green High School is sponsoring Area 5 Special Olympic Spring Games starting at 8 a.m. Volunteers are needed. 393-3265.

Sunday, May 1st

The Baker Chamber players play at 3 p.m. today at the Downing Museum at the Baker Arboretum. More info:  A reception will follow. Tickets are $50.00 per person, and seating is limited to 50 people.

This is Celebrity Scoop day at Chaney's Dairy Barn from 1-4 p.m.  This event benefits St. Jude's Children's hospital.

May 14th will be the Second Saturday downtown event for May, with Snow cones, Hawaiian ice, face painting, booths, music, balloon twisting, inflatables for the kids, and more.
Also May 14th is the Victorian Antique and Garden Festival from 9-4 at Hobson Grove.
The Wild Bird and Nature store at 901 Lehman Avenue has an Herb Festival Thursday, April 28 – Sunday May 8th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
May 2nd will be the first Apron Extravaganza.
