Saturday, February 2nd
Today is St. Brigid's Day, also known as Candlemas or Imbolc.

Is having a Pancake Breakfast and Yard Sale on February 1st from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Saturday February 2nd from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm. All you can eat pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy. WKU has a Dance Project performance at the lab theater at Gordon Wilson Hall at 8 p.m. today. Tickets are $6.00.

Friday, February 8th
From the WKU Events page for Friday, Feb. 8th: "7 a.m. MACY’S USED BOOK SALE. L&N Depot, 401 Kentucky St. - Through Feb. 10. Proceeds benefit Southern Kentucky Book Fest. Contact Kristie Lowry, 745-4502." (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today)

Morris Jewelry on Fountain Square has a Gem Show from 12-7 p.m.

Also February 8th: Dr. Eli Jackson is having another Smiles from the Heart day. It is first come, first served time for free dental care today from 7-4. This event is for needy people who are over 18 and not pregnant. You can pick up a flyer about it at Chandler Park Dental Care at 1857 Tucker Way, BG. (X-rays, cleanings, extractions, and fillings will be done.)

"2/15/13 Community Education’s 8th annual Spellabration will take place on Friday, February 15th at the Sloan Convention Center, Bowling Green, Ky. The event raises money for Community Education’s after-school programs, which serve nearly 1,000 children of working families here in Bowling Green, Ky. "2/15/13 Saint James United Methodist Church will be hosting the first ever Empty Bowls Fundraiser in Bowling Green, Ky. Empty Bowls is a project working to end hunger in our communities. Local Potters, Pottery students and hobbyist are working to make bowls to be donated. The event will take place Wednesday, February 13th starting at 5:00 pm. For a $10 donation you will get to pick out a bowl of over 200 bowls then will be served a delicious meal of soup, bread and drink, afterwards the bowls is yours to keep. Bridal Fest Winter Expo is on Feb. 17th from noon - 4 p.m. at the Sloan Convention Center.

Chaney's has a benefit Barn Dance on Feb. 22nd from 8-10 p.m. for Jack Haley.

WKU will present the Pirates of Penzance on March 1-3.

Wednesday, June 8th
Today is a Concert in the Park at 12 noon in Fountain Square Park, featuring Erica Nicole/Cotton Creek. This concert is free and open to the public. Bring your blankets and chairs.


School students have a Graham Troopers meeting at 3 p.m. at the Graham Drive Community Branch library today. They will make a National Safety Month poster. 781-1441.


A free computer class, E-mail for Beginners, is from 6-7 p.m. at the Warren County Library Main Branch. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

The St. James United Methodist Church at 575 Winfield Drive  is putting on a Kids Summer of Fun event at 6:30 p.m. Events include water wars, saying thank you to local police officers, more. 842-4949.


Thursday, June 9th
A free computer class, Job Hunting Online, is today from 10-11 a.m. at the Main Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

Teen Thursdays are at 5:00 p.m. at the Graham Drive Community Branch library. 781-1441.


The WKU Hardin Planetarium has a free program at 7 p.m. called Venus: Our Sister Planet. Seating is first come, first served. 745-4044.


The WKU Chess club meets from 6-9 p.m. at the WKU Faculty House for all skill levels. You may need to bring your own chess set. Call for more info: 918-809-6278. The public is welcome. http://www.hilltopperchess.net.

The BG League of Bicyclists has an easy club ride starting at 6 p.m. at Kereiakes Park. http://www.BGLOB.com. From their website: "Come on out and join BGLOB for one of our club rides! Club rides are designed for riders of all experience levels. Helmets are required for all club rides and riders should come prepared for basic mechanical repairs, such as changing flat tires. Learn more about group riding safety and etiquette"

Also at 6 p.m. is a Library event at the Warren County Public Library Main Branch featuring author and actor Jane Kozak. You must pick up a free library ticket at any location before the event. 781-4882.

The Faith United Methodist Church on Veterans Memorial Lane is having a Day Camp today from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Theme is "Jesus to the Rescue". 843-8430.

July 17th from 2-4pm is Geocaching 101: Hiding a Cache at Lost River Cave.
September 24th is the date of the International Festival from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Circus Square Park.

May Squirrels in the Square:
Find 6 squirrels at participating shops in Fountain Square through the 31st of May and win a big, big Surprise Basket filled with neat things. Just find 6 squirrels at shops downtown.

May 20th WKU will officially open the Confucious Institute and the Chinese Learning Center. The official opening will be at the Ivan Wilson FAC Theater from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. The ribbon cutting will be in front of Java City. More info: Doris.Patrick@wku.edu.
