Here are some selected events for this weekend, plus Monday of this holiday weekend.

Be prepared for many sales and fun things to do this weekend in the area.

Friday, August 31st
Today is The National Corvette Museum second day of their 18th Anniversary Celebration and Hall of Fame Induction activities. Find out more: 2012 NCM 18th Anniversary and Hall of Fame Induction : August 30 - September 1, 2012.
Today they have a speaker, Wesley Wong, senior FBI on-scene commander at Ground Zero, who will speak about 9-11, at 10 a.m.  He is also speaking tomorrow at 9 a.m.

The Little Mermaid, Jr. shows today at WKU's Van Meter Auditorium at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Find out more: 779-2185. They also have a performance tomorrow at 7 p.m.

There are Concerts in the Park tonight from 6-10, at Fountain Square Park and also Circus Square Park. 782-0222.


Saturday, Sept. 1 starts the 2012 Applefest at Jackson's Orchard. 781-5303. 

The Corn Maze at Chaney's Dairy barn also opens today.

Honk, Jr., the Musical plays today at 3 p.m. at the PTK (Public Theatre of Kentucky) Phoenix Theater at 545 Morris Alley. Tickets are $8.00 and $10.00. 781-6233.

The WKU Hardin Planetarium has a free planetarium show today at 2 p.m. called Curiosity on Mars. Seating is first-come, first served. 745-4044. 

Monday, Sept. 3

Today is Labor Day. Have a great holiday today.

Besides great sales all over the place in the BG, KY area, the Applefest continues at Jackson's Orchard from 8-6.  781-5303. 

Also, there is a Run for Sight race event 5K and 2-Mile Walk with proceeds providing eyeglasses and eye exams. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. at Covington Woods Park. It is sponsored by the BG Noon Lions Club. See more info. here at the Running Zone site.

The Hot Rods baseball team has its Season Finale today at 12 p.m. noon. 901-2121 or http://www.bghotrods.com.

"9/8/12 Rockfield United Methodist Church, Rockfield, Ky. Will be having their Annual Ice Cream Supper on September 8th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. and: "9/8/12 1st Annual 9/11 Heroes Run will be Saturday, September 8th 2012, at Kereiakes Park Trail, Bowling Green, Ky. There will be a 5k & Family 1 mile Run/Walk . Registration is available now at 911heroesrun.com ( shirts are guaranteed to online registration) or you can register starting at 3:00 the day of the event with the 5K race beginning at 5:30 pm. 50% of the proceeds will help the Pennyroyal Homeless Veterans Center. "9/15/12 The “Running For St. Jude 5K and 1 Mile Walk" will be on September 15th At Phil Moore Park Alvaton, Ky. Registration starting at 7:30 am. With races following afterwards at 8:00 for the 5K run and 8:30 the 1 Mile Walk. The cost is $20 for the run and $15 for the walk. You can register online at active.com or stop by Trax Running to pick up a registration form. For more information please call: Marshall at 270-991-3936."

"9/21/12 Jody Richards Elementary School, Bowling Green, Ky. will he having their Fall Festival on September 21st from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. There will be inflatables and lots of games. BBQ and other goodies will be available and all funds raised will help pay for a new playground. For more information please call Katie Frassinelli at 270-792-7228."

"9/22/12 The South Central Kentucky Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be Saturday, September 22nd at Preston Miller Park, Bowling Green, Ky. Registration will begin at 9:00 am and the walk will begin at 10:00. Register your team online by visiting www.alz.org."

"9/29/12 The 2012 Out Of The Darkness Community Walk , Walk to Prevent Suicide , for Bowling Green will be on Saturday, September 29th at 9:00 am at Phil Moore Park, Alvaton, Ky. For more Information call: Darrell Traugber at 270-784-0960 and check out the website at www.outofthedarkness.org."

September 29th is also the International Festival.

 Sunday, July 15th
Today is a Seussical the Musical matinee put on by our local group, Fountain Square Players, at WKU's Van Meter Auditorium at 3 p.m. Tickets are $8.00 - $14.00. Call 782-3119. (Dr. Seuss characters).

A Southern Kentucky Team Penning Association event is today at the WKU Ag Expo Center starting at 10:30. 745-3976.

St. James United Methodist Church has a Southern Gospel Concert tonight at 6 p.m. featuring Southern Sound and South Land Quartets. 842-4949.

Beech Bend Raceway has the TENN-TUCK 2012 Triple Crown racing event today starting at 8 a.m. Open time trials are at 9-10:30 a.m. Find out more: http://www.beechbend.com/dragstrip.htm.

Monday, July 16th

11-1-11 through 11-30-2011: This is Military Appreciation Month at the Corvette Museum. From the KentuckyLiving site: "All those who have served and their immediate families receive free museum admission."

From the WCVK Community Happenings page: "...Winter Market located in the parking lot of the the old Bowling Green Mall at the instersection of Nashville Rd. and Campbell Lane, is open every Saturday through December 17th from 8:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m with fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, canned items, crafts, artwork and lots of gifts ideas from local farmers and artisans. Hot Breakfast, live music and much more. This event is sponsored by Community Farmer Market." 

From the Visitbgky.com site: Carriage Rides are available through December 31st on Fountain Square each night.

Snow Magic Shows will be at Greenwood Mall this week at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
Santa will also be at the Mall this week. See the Greenwood Mall Calendar for more events.

From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "12/2- 12/23 The 33rd Annual Trees of Christmas at the Houchens Center, Bowling Green, Ky. See all the unique trees decorated according to their own favorite movie title, take family pictures, and vote for a favorite tree. Bring your family and see trees created by local civic groups, non-profits and other organizations. Admission is free. The trees will be open each day December 2-23. Weekdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm , Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 p.m."


Monday, December 12th
A free math and science class is today at the ALIVE Center on Nashville Road from 4-5 p.m. This is for grades 5-8. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221.  
A free Victorian Christmas cards class is at the Main Library today at 4 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

A free computer class, Facebook for Beginners, is at the Main Branch library from 6-7 p.m.  You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

The Houchens Center has its famous Trees of Christmas exhibit up from 10-2 today. Admission is free for this event, donations of hats, gloves, and scarves are appreciated. This event continues all week. See above for times.

The Historic Railpark and Train Museum has The Polar Express event at 5 p.m., 5:30, 6:15, 6:45, and 7:30.  You must pre-register to attend. Call 745-7317.

Tuesday, December 13th
Today is the Community Chorus auditions from 5;45 - 7:15 p.m. at the Nicely Conference Center for grades 4-6. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays (PM) at First Christian Church.

See the Star of Bethlehem in a free Planetarium show  at 7 p.m. at WKU's Hardin Planetarium. It is first-come first-served for seats.

The Public Theater of Kentucky is showing "The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's production of A Christmas Carol" tonight at 8 p.m. Tickets are 12. 00 for adults, 10.00 for students and seniors, and $8.00 for children under 12. 782-3119.

Friday, December 16th
Bowling Green City Hall has their annual Open House today at 1001 College Sreet from 2-4 p.m. All citizens are invited. 393-3000. ("Music, food, and festivities..." as per the Soky Calendar.)


The Public Theater of Kentucky is showing "The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's production of A Christmas Carol" tonight at 8 p.m. Tickets are 12. 00 for adults, 10.00 for students and seniors, and $8.00 for children under 12.  782-3119.

Today is the Friday Night at WKU Redz public event from 6-10:45 at WKU DUC's 4th floor. Call 745-2456. The fee is $3.00 with a WKU ID and $5.00 without. The public is invited.
 

Saturday, December 17th  
Chaney's has Breakfast withSanta today from 8-9:30 a.m. and 10-11:30.  You must pre-register for this event. Tickets are Adults $9.95 and children 3-10 $5.95.

Lost River Cave has Kids Only Shopping today at their gift shop. Proceeds benefit the Nature Center. 393-0077.

Orchestra Kentucky has a concert tonight, A Rockin' Christmas, at WKU's Van Meter Auditorium. Tickets are $26.00 - $36.00. 846-2426, http://www.orchestrakentucky.com.

Sunday, December 18th
See the Star of Bethlehem in a free Planetarium show  at 2 p.m. at WKU's Hardin Planetarium. It is first-come first-served for seats.

The Nutcracker Interactive Ballet Tea Party is today at Dance Arts. Tickets are 16.00 for one child and one adult. You must pre-register to attend. 1751 Scottsville Road. Find out more: 842-6811.

The Pots Place Co-op Studio and Gallery is open weekly, Tuesday through Saturday from 11-3. They are located on Fountain Square in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They have cute handmade pottery, mugs, vases, gift tags, animals, cups, plates, bowls, Face jugs, and much more. There is a full range of prices here too.

WKU Alumni can take a virtual tour of the new Augenstein Alumni Center here.

Sunday, November 20th
The ALIVE Center at 1818 31-W offers an (East) Indian Culture and Heritage (ICH) and Language Class from 10 a.m. to 12 noon today at the ALIVE Center. Languages taught are Hindi, Gujarati and Telegu. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221.

WKU has a free planetarium show today at 2 p.m. The Star of Bethlehem. Seating is first-come, first served. 745-4044.
The public is invited to a Thanksgiving Dinner at St. James UMC at 575 Winfield Drive following the 10:30 service. 84-4949.

Bowling Green Junior High has a singing event today at 2 p.m. "Will Sing for Food" to benefit the American Red Cross Food Pantry. 781-7377.

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church has a C.R.O.P. Hunger Walk today starting at 2 p.m. Bring canned goods and cash the day of the walk to 807 Campbell Lane. 842-4949.

WKU presents Amahl and the Night Visitors at 3 p.m. at Russell Miller Auditorium. Adults are $11.00 and students $9.00. 
WKU also has Revusicals from the Music Theater History and Repertoire class at Gordon Wilson Hall at 7 p.m. Free, and donations are accepted. 745-5845.

Monday, November 21st
The Bob Kirby branch have Toddler Time at 9:30 a.m. Kirby Kids is at 10:30 a.m. for ages 18-36 months.

The Main branch library has a free computer class at 6-7:30 p.m., "MS Excel Advanced." You must pre-register to attend. 781-4882.

Revusicals is playing at WKU's Gordon Wilson Hall at 7 p.m. tonight. This show has scenes from musicals old and new. No admission, but donations will be accepted.

Tuesday, November 22nd
Today is the deadline for the Lost River Cave photo contest.
From the Lost River Cave site: "September 23 - November 22, 2011- Facebook Fall Photo Contest
We are looking for astonishing imagery of Lost River’s wildlife or natural landscapes.
Submitted images must be taken at Lost River Cave and Valley between September 23, 2011 – November 22, 2011. Photos of plant life, natural landscapes, wildlife and photographs including people at Lost River are acceptable for the composition. Photos are submitted via Facebook."

A free trombone recital is at WKU Fine Arts Center Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

WKU Women's Basketball has a food drive for tickets event tonight at Diddle Arena at 7 p.m. Bring 2 canned food items for the Red Cross Food Pantry and receive one free ticket. Call for details: 745-6048.

Wednesday, November 23rd
The Main branch library, the Bob Kirby Branch, and the Smiths Grove branch all have preschool storytime at 10:30 a.m. 782-4882.

The Graham branch library has Graham Troopers for school-age students today at 3 p.m. 781-1441.

The Bob Kirby branch library has Kirby Babies at 9:30 a.m. 782-0252.

The Smiths Grove branch library has Kids Craft Time from 3-4 p.m. 563-6651.
WKU has REDZ Dollar night from 6-10:45 tonight. This event is open to the public. The fee is $1.00 per hour to play bowling and ping-pong at WKU Downing University Center 4th floor. 745-2456.

11-1-11 through 11-30-2011: This is Military Appreciation Month at the Corvette Museum. From the KentuckyLiving site: "All those who have served and their immediate families receive free museum admission."

The Pots Place Co-op Studio and Gallery is open weekly, Tuesday through Saturday from 11-3. They are located on Fountain Square in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I just got this information via email.

This link tells how to register for the 8th Annual Polar Express storytime event at the Historic Railpark and Train Museum on November 11th.

How to register for the Polar Express event this year.

Their logo for this event shows the dates of this event: December 5, 6, 7, and 12,13, 14. It was a very popular event last year.










What is the Polar Express event?

It is a free event (you must pre-register) where readings are held of the popular Polar Express book inside of a real train car.

Events around Bowling Green Kentucky October 8-16

Both Jackson's Orchard and Chaney's Dairy Barn have events this month. 
Jackson's Orchard has their Pumpkin Festival weekends this month. From their site:
2011 Pumpkin Festival - 5 Fall Weekends
"Beginning Saturday, September 24 & Sunday, September 25 then every weekend through the end of October. Oct 1 & 2, Oct 8 & 9, Oct 15 & 16 and Oct 22 & 23. The month of October brings lots of excitement to the Orchard. With Halloween approaching, the color is Orange! You’ll find family fun every weekend for the five weekends before Halloween. That means Wagon Rides to the Pumpkin Patch, Pick-Your-Own Pumpkins, The Corn Maze, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Straw Castle, Face Painting, The Goat Ranch, and The Cider Slider, our Children’s Slide. Saturday, October 8th
The last Second Saturday of the year is today on Fountain Square Park from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be face painting, Sidewalk Sales, booths, horse and carriage rides, Balloon Twisting and more. Come down for the last Second Saturday this year and see the new shops on the square including Tea Squares and Meo's Collection.

Second Saturday Street Fairs are held around Fountain Square Park. The Downtown Merchants and Professionals organize the event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every second Saturday beginning in April through October. There are inflatables and games for kids, horse and carriage rides, both for a modest fee. There is live music, face painting, balloon twisting, food vendors, product vendor booths and more, that will all combine for fun and excitement.  Also look for sidewalk sales by merchants, all in a festive atmosphere that brings back memories of a bustling Downtown area.
