Events in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area Aug. 14-21.

Fun things to do in the Bowling Green, Ky area August 14th - 21st.
The Main Library is closed through the 17th due to renovations. The other branches are open.

Sunday, August 14th

The Capital Arts theater  at 416 East Main downtown shows Les Miserables today at 3 p.m., presented by the Capital Arts Youth Theater. Tickets are $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for students, and $6.00 for children 12 and under.
The Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 807 Campbell Lane has their annual Ice Cream Social, Cake Walk, and Cake Auction today from 4-6 p.m. 781-3295. 

WhaBah Steakhouse has a live Blues Jam from 6-10. 782-6400.
Monday, August 15th
CASA has their spring Training starting today at Christ Episcopal Church next to the Main Library at 6-9 p.m. The classes are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks. Find out more: 782-5353. You can also apply at their website here: http://www.casaofsck.org.

The Bob Kirby Branch Library has Toddler Time today at 9:30 a.m. Toddler Time is for kids ages 18-36 months. 782-0252.

Tuesday, August 16th
Today if you eat at certain restaurants, you can support United Way from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. This event is the Dine-A-Round. Find out more: http://www.liveunitedtoday.com. From their Facebook page: "United Way's 5th Annual Dine-A-Round is August 16th. Dine at The Catfish House, The Bistro, O'Charley's, Mariah's, Griff's Deli, Holiday Inn University Plaza Cafe, or Earl G Dumplin's (Scottsville) and 10% of the day's proceeds will benefit those in need in Southern Kentucky! What a great excuse to go out to eat!"

A fundraiser for Rhonda St. Charles is today from 4 p.m. until ? at the Keller Williams Realty Office. The proceeds will go to pay for funeral expenses.


SKyPAC is having a Hard Hat Tour today at 4 p.m. They also have another on Thursday. You must pre-register to attend. Call 393-0080.

Wednesday, August 17th
Use promo code "JDW" to purchase tickets for the Bowling Green Hot Rods today on Military Recognition Day and help support J.D. Williams, an injured Fort Campbell soldier from Auburn. Tickets are $10.00 each. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Bowling Green Ballpark. 901-2121.

The Special Olympics Bowling Practice and Sign-ups are from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. at Southern Lanes.  Bowling Practice will be every Wednesday. Call to find out more: 393-3265 or 393-3480.

Thursday, August 18th
The State Fair in Louisville starts today, and goes on until the 28th.

Friday, August 19th
There are Concerts in the Park today from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. in Fountain Square Park and Circus Square Park in Bowling Green. 782-0222.

Art Shows and Exhibitions

Misha Ambrosia is having her art shown at Greener Groundz during February.


The VSA Exhibit is free and open to the public at the Garden Gallery at the Kentucky Library and Museum this month until March 21st. 745-2592.

Kendall McMinimy is showing his art at the WKU Ivan Wilson FAC Corridor Gallery from Feb. 16-March 23rd. 745-3944.

Martha Duff has an art exhibit at the Bob Kirby branch library through February 28th.

Professor Gregory Hansen will have a book signing event and a reading tonight from his book "A Florida Fiddler: The Life and Times of Richard Seaman" at 6-7 p.m. at the Kentucky Library.

From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "03/4/11 Bowling Green High School Students will perform Bye Bye Birdie, the Tony Award Winning musical, at the Capitol Arts Center March 4 and 5, 7 p.m., and March 6, 3 p.m. The cast is made up of over 80 students including several elementary and junior high students. Tickets are $12 adults, $8 students. Call 746-2300 to reserve seats and for more information."

This is the first day of the Home Expo 2011, which is 5-8 p.m. today at the Sloan Convention Center. See products from landscapers, builders, and designers plus mini-seminars, displays, a door prize, and more. Tickets are $8.00 or 2 for $15.00 for adults and accompanied (by an adult) children are free.

 From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "3/5/11 Junior Achievement’s 2011 Penguin Plunge will be March 5, 10:30 a.m. outside the Sloan Convention Center. December Happenings in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky. (#5E)  

This month: Veterans have free admission to the National Corvette Museum. Call 781-7973 for details.  Also (from a Corvette Museum email) "The National Corvette Museum has named the entire month of December “Dollar Days” for residents of Kentucky who visit the Museum. All month long, Kentucky residents can tour the Museum for a $1.00 admission per person, and will only need to show a Kentucky drivers license to take advantage of the special offer. Children will be admitted at the $1.00 price with adults presenting the Kentucky identification." Also "Visitors can also take a chance to win a 2011 Corvette or Camaro for only $10 and do some holiday shopping in the Corvette Store."

"12/3-12/22 32nd annual Trees of Christmas at Eloise Houchens Center, 1115 Adams St., Bowling Green, will be Dec. 3-22, weekdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sundays 1-4 p.m. Admission is free. Help local children keep a little warmer this winter by making a donation of hats, gloves, and scarves. For more information call 842-6761."

WKU is having their Fall Graduating Seniors Art exhibition this month until the 18th at Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Gallery, FAC and the Corridor Gallery. Call 745-3944.

Also, 30 Trees of Christmas decorated by students will be on display this month in the Kentucky room of the Kentucky Library and Museum. Call for hours, 745-6082.

The Kentucky Museum on WKU's campus has a Holiday Trees and Ornaments exhibit right now. You can see some pictures of them at their Facebook page here. You can see more events at the Calendar Page. 

This month until the 17th, the Warren County Public Library is collecting gently used mittens, coats, gloves, scarves, and hats for children and adults. They will go on Mitten Trees at the libraries. Call  781-4882 for more info.

December 13-16 will be the Polar Express Event. Polar Express readings will be held in the Dining Car at the Historic RailPark and Museum. You must pre-register to reserve free ticket. Call 270-745-7317. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. http://www.historicrailpark.com/.




Tuesday, December 14th 

Ryan's has a Senior Meal Deal today for lunch all week, 1-3 p.m. The price is $5.49 including drink. Call to find out what a Senior is there. 843-1439.

A free computer class, Ebay for Beginners (on Macbooks) is at the Bob Kirby Branch library from 6-7 p.m. Call to reserve a spot, 782-0252.

Wednesday, December 15th
An after school special for students of all ages is at 3:30 p..m. at the Graham Drive Community Branch library. 563-6651.

A Chili Competition is at St. James Methodist Church at 575 Winfield Drive near Keriakes Park at 6:00. The public is invited.  842-4949.

Wii Tween event is at the Graham Drive Community Branch library today at 5:00 p.m. Call 781-1441 for more info.

Friday, December 17
Storytime at Barnes and Noble today will feature Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett at 11:30 p.m. 746-9779.
The Warren County Fiscal Court has an Open House today  from 2-4 p.m. at the Downtown Warren County Courthouse. Call 843-4146 for more info.

Also, the City Hall will have a Holiday Open House today from 2-4 at the Bowling Green City Hall. Call 393-3000 for more info.

The Presbyterian Church at 1003 State Street will host a Christmas Fest by the Meade County High School Madrigal Singers. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.50 for students. Reservations are required. 843-4707.

Eastside Church of Christ at 1706 Smallhouse Road has a hymn singing today at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome. 843-9925.

Orchestra Kentucky Retro Series has Christmas Madness at 8 p.m. tonight at WKU Van Meter Hall. Find out more: 846-2426.

WKU has Commencement today and tomorrow. 




Saturday, December 18th
A free All Aboard Series talk "Hold 'em Up: Great Train Robberies" will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Historic Railpark and Train Museum. 745-7317. Danish and coffee will be served.

Chaney's Dairy Barn is having a Breakfast with Santa event from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. today. It is a reservation-only event. You can call to reserve a spot starting on November 1st. (From the website: "Reservations will guarantee a seat, but not where you will sit"). Parents are asked to bring cameras. http://www.chaneysdairybarn.com.

Russellville has a Community Advent Service at 7:00 p.m. with traditional lessons and carols at Grace Episcopal Church at Main and 6th Street, Russellville.
