Some fun things going on this weekend in the BG, KY area

Here are just a few events going on this weekend, Friday through Sunday, October 12th-14th.


Friday, October 12th
The Gallery Hop is from 5-8 p.m. I will be there for the first part of it - - at the Pots Place Studio and Gallery downtown.

AND the Artistic Soul Gallery at 1014 East 11th Avenue (showing John Carpenter posters as part of a special show) will also be open for the Hop.


WKU's Lab Theater presents Two Dumb Dogs by Edith Weiss at 4 -5 p.m. at Gordon Wilson Hall. Admission is $5.00.  From the PCAL Calendar: "Constantly getting into trouble with their owner, two dogs, Ferdo and Floor decide to run away and seek fame and fortune on their own. Together Ferdo and Floof must rally their brainpower as they encounter a cursed prince, a hapless poodle, the legendary Dog Shouter, and the terribly wicked Queen." 745-3121.

Pioneer Cemetery has a Lantern Tour at 7, 8, and 9 p.m. Parking is at NAPA or Parks and Rec. Find out more at the Kentucky Tourism Site.


The Red River Meeting House in Franklin has a Primitive Camp Meeting and Rendezvous today. Camping is available. http://rrmh.org/pcm.htm.

A Mane Event Open Horse Show happens at 10 a.m. at the Ag Expo Center.  Learn more here. General admission is free, and fee is $5.00 per class. 991-1992.

WKU's Van Meter Hall is the site for a Symphonic Band concert at 7:30 - 9 p.m.

A free concert is at the Holy Apostles Orthodox Church at 7 p.m. featuring The Sacred & the Ancient Music in the Eastern Orthodox Tradition with Greg Abdalah. Find out more: http://www.holyapostlesbg.org/.

Bids, Boots, and BBQ is from 6-9 at the WKU Ag Center. From the Visit BGKY site:
Enjoy a fine BBQ meal provided by Jimmy Diemer’s and watch New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding Center’s students show off their amazing riding skills. There will also be a live and silent auction and line dancing lessons from Cindy Cossey!
Tickets: $25 for adults, $15 for children (12 and under), $185 for a table of 8 people.

The Medical Center has their annual Health and Fitness Expo today starting at 4 p.m. at the Sloan Convention Center. Find out more: Health Expo and 10K Classic. The 10K Classic is tomorrow (Saturday).
As part of this event, Southern Foods has a pasta and more dinner from 4-8 p.m. for racers and anyone who buys a ticket.


Saturday, October 13th
The Medical Center 10K Classic is today. Find out more: Health Expo and 10K Classic.

Today is the Lost River Cave's Great American Campout, starting at 2 p.m. Many activities and of course camping! You must register to attend. 393-0077.  From the website: "On Saturday, Oct. 13 bring your family and your tent for a night of memory making at Lost River Cave's annual campout. This is a great opportunity for first-time campers to sleep under the stars." The registration form is downloadable at the website too. Scroll down to see it.

The Humane Society has a Vettes, Pets and Family Charity Car Show from 8-2 at the Corvette Plant.

Arts in the Park and Antique show is at Covington Woods today from 9-3.

The Mane Event horse show is today starting at 10 a.m. 745-3976.

Mellow Mushroom has live music all day today starting at noon. 393-1800.

Today is Visitor's Day at Rainhill Rescue on Hwy. 185 http://www.rainhillrescue.com.


Sunday, October 14th
The Red River Meeting House in Franklin has a Primitive Camp Meeting and Rendezvous today. Camping is available. http://rrmh.org/pcm.htm.

The WKU Hardin Planetarium has a show at 2 p.m. "Finding Your Way Around the Autumn Sky". Seating is first-come, first served. 745-4044.

WKU's Gordon Wilson Lab Theatre is showing Two Dumb Dogs - a play for all ages, at 3 p.m. 745-3121.

The WKU Choirs have the Fall Choral Concert today from 4-5:30 p.m. at WKU's Van Meter Hall. 745-3751.

Friday, September 7th
The Special Olympics Softball State Championships are being held today at Buchanon Park.

A free computer class is today from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at the Smiths Grove Branch library, "Microsoft Word Intermediate. You must pre-register to attend. Call 563-6651.

The Balloons, Tunes and BBQ event continues today at 4 p.m. at the Bowling Green Warren County Airport.

Also Ice Cream and a MooVie is happening at Chaney's Dairy Barn at 7 p.m. (dusk). Tonight the movie is Happy Feet 2.

The 48th Annual Antique Show and Sale is today from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 911 Searcy Way. Proceeds will benefit local community projects. This event continues on Saturday.

The Fourth Wall Ensemble (Flute, trombone, and percussion) plays today at WKU's Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. This concert is free.745-3751.

Lost River Cave has several events this month, like Fall Break Bash. Read about them: Lost River Cave events. 

Tonight the Delafield Homecoming Festival features discounted carnival rides starting at 6 p.m. at Sugar Maple Square. Find out more at the VisitBGKY site here.

Saturday, September 8th
The Vette City Roller Derby has a Doubleheader at the Skate Box on Three Springs Road at 4 p.m. See their Faceook page here: http://www.facebook.com/VetteCityRollerDerby.

"9/8/12 Rockfield United Methodist Church, Rockfield, Ky. Will be having their Annual Ice Cream Supper on September 8th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Beech Bend has the Holley LS Fest today starting at 7 a.m. http://www.lsfest.com. This event continues tomorrow too.

The famous Balloons, Tunes, and BBQ event at the Bowling Green Warren County Airport starts in the a.m. Be looking for balloons around town today for the fly-in! Here is their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/BalloonsTunesBBQ. The event continues tomorrow too.

Today is also the Second Saturday Street Fair from 9-3 in downtown Bowling Green, unless there is a lot of rain.
Second Saturday has been cancelled as of Friday night. Sorry!

The 5th Annual Delafield Homecoming Festival is also today, at Sugar Maple Square, from 10-7. 784-4325. See this website for details. Sunday, September 9th
Today there is a FREE presentation at 2:00 p.m. at the WKU Hardin Planetarium called Curiosity on Mars. Seating is first-come, first served.

The Bowling Green Retirement Village has an Art for the Ages Art show today. 842-5433.

Today the Bowling Green Retirement Village's Art for the Ages Art show continues. 842-5433.

The Corvette City Bop and Dance Club for ages 21 and over meets tonight from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the F.O.P. Call 991-4040 for more info. New dancers are welcome.

"9/15/12 The “Running For St. Jude 5K and 1 Mile Walk" will be on September 15th At Phil Moore Park Alvaton, Ky. Registration starting at 7:30 am. With races following afterwards at 8:00 for the 5K run and 8:30 the 1 Mile Walk. The cost is $20 for the run and $15 for the walk. You can register online at active.com or stop by Trax Running to pick up a registration form. For more information please call: Marshall at 270-991-3936."

"9/21/12 Jody Richards Elementary School, Bowling Green, Ky. will he having their Fall Festival on September 21st from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. There will be inflatables and lots of games. "9/22/12 The South Central Kentucky Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be Saturday, September 22nd at Preston Miller Park, Bowling Green, Ky. Registration will begin at 9:00 am and the walk will begin at 10:00. Register your team online by visiting www.alz.org."

September 29th is also the International Festival.

Events in the Bowling Green Kentucky area Nov. 8 - 13

I have some events here for the next week you may like. I am going to limit it to mostly Cheap or Free events. To see everything going on this week, check out the links to the right and/or get a Soky Happenings magazine at Barnes and Noble or another location.

11-1-11 through 11-30-2011: This is Military Appreciation Month at the Corvette Museum. From the KentuckyLiving site: "All those who have served and their immediate families receive free museum admission."

Tuesday, November 8th




Today is Election Day! Go to vote at your polling place and tonight will be more exciting, as you watch to see who won.

Also: make sure to have Beans and Cornbread downtown at the Presbyterian Church. The BG Noon Lions put it on so it will be a Good Deed to go. Plus, the food is GREAT. I love their corn cakes. Mmmmmm.....


Library events today at the Main branch library include Toddler time at the Main Branch library, Preschool Spanish at 11:30 a.m. and the Lego Club at 6 p.m. for ages 5 and up. 781-4882.

The Graham Book Club will discuss Runaway Stories by Alice Munro at 6 p.m. 781-1441.

A free computer class is offered at the Bob Kirby branch library, Ebay for Beginners from 6-7 p.m. you must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

Fountain Square Players have auditions at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 313 State Street (per their Facebook page and online site) for their play, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. People may also sign up for set construction, stage crew, costume makers, and props people today. This play will be shown on January 5-8, 2012. Call for more details: 782-3119.

Wednesday, November 9th




The WKU Chess Club meets today from 9 a.m. to noon at Barnes and Noble. The public is invited. You may want to bring your chess set. Ask about it: 918-809-6278.

The Graham Branch library has Graham Troopers today at 3 p.m. for school-age students. 781-1441.

The Main Branch library has 'Be a Star" for grades 5-12 at 4:00 p.m. today. This is a new drama troupe, and no experience is necessary. 781-4882.

The Presbyterian Church has a movie "Lemon Tree" followed by a discussion led by Dr Ingrid Lilly, scholar of religious studies at WKU. Call for more info: 745-5755.

The Kentucky Museum at WKU has a presentation at 7 p.m. "Lincoln and Secession". 745-2592.

WKU has a Percussion Ensemble concert at 7:30 at the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Tickets are only $4.00 a person.  745-3751.

Thursday, November 10th

  


The High Five Kids Club (for kids age K-5) meets today at  4 p.m. at the Main Branch library.

Teen Thursday is today at the Graham Drive branch library at 5 p.m. for grades 6-12. 781-1441.

A free computer class (NEW) - Identification and Care of Photographs is at the Main Branch library from 6-7 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882. 

Blood Relations, a play re-imagining the Lizzie Borden murders is at 8 p.m. at the Phoenix Theater. Tickets are $10.00 and $15.00. 
 
Friday, November 11th
 



The Main Branch library has Peek-A-Boo Babies at 9:30 a.m. for babies ages 6-18 months, and Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. 781-4882.

The Bob Kirby branch library has Preschool Spanish for ages 3-5 years at 9:30 a.m. 782-0252.

Fountain Square shops downtown have Veterans Day Specials today starting at 10 a.m.

The Historic RailPark and Train Museum has an Open House today from 11-7 to see the new RailCar. More info: 756-7317 or http://www.historicrailpark.com.

A free math and science class is today at the ALIVE Center on Nashville Road from 4-5 p.m. This is for grades 5-8. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221. 


WKU has Friday Night with REDZ. This event is only $5.00 without a WKU ID. The public is invited. Billairds, ping pong, bowling, more. Call for more info: 745-2456.


The BG Western Choral Society and the WKU chorale along with Harpeth Rising, a bluegrass band, will perform at WKU's Van Meter Auditoium at 730 p.m., performing  A Bluegrass Mass. tickets are $10.00 for general admission, $8.00 for seniors, and $5.00 for students. 745-5301.


Blood Relations, a play re-imagining the Lizzie Borden murders is at 8 p.m. at the Phoenix Theater. Tickets are $10.00 and $15.00.  


Saturday, November 12th





Christmas for the Soldiers is today at Phil Moore Park. Help gather care packages, and support the troops. Also there will be food and entertainment. Find out more: 270-320-3152.

Today is the Rockfield United Methodist Church Women's Christmas Bazaar from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are located at 682 Richpond Rockfield Road. 842-7788. They will offer a Farmer's Breakfast and a holiday-style lunch, plus vendors and a silent auction.


St. James UMC also has a Holiday Fall Craft Bazaar from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. They also will serve breakfast and lunch. 575 Winfield Drive, just down from Keriakes Park. 842-4949.


Super Sib day is from 9-1 today at the Suzanne Vitale complex at WKU. This day features activities for siblings of children with special needs. Find out more: 745-2784.


Briarwood Elementary School has a Craft Sale today at 265 Lovers Lane (1st ever) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 782-5554. From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: 11/12/11 Briarwood Elementary School will have their craft show on November 12th at 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. so come and enjoy a time of shopping and over 40 of Bowling Green’s local artist and vendors. The Kentucky Museum has a free session "The Art Quilt" today from 10 - 10:45 a.m. This session is repeated at 11 a.m. Call to find out more: 745-2592. they also have "Applique 101" at 1:00 p.m. to 1:45, and Quilt Photography from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.


Tartouffe is playing at 7 p.m., put on by the Capitol Arts Youth Theater. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, and $6.00 for kids 12 and under. more info: 782-2787.

The ALIVE Center at 1818 31-W offers an (East) Indian Culture and Heritage (ICH) and Language Class from 10 a.m. to 12 noon today at the ALIVE Center. Languages taught are Hindi, Gujarati and Telegu. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221.

11/19/11 Fairview United Methodist Church , 336 Mt. Olivet Rd. Bowling Green, Ky will be having Parent’s Saturday Out, on November 19th. December 1 - 6 p.m. - Winter Reading Program Kick-off at Fountain Square Park Tree Lighting.
