<Sept. 20th, Thursday> "Pioneer Cemetery Lantern Tour & Bicentennial Festival
There's no better time to say 'i love bg' than this week as Bowling Green celebrates its Bicentennial. An entertaining living history event, The Pioneer Cemetery Lantern Tour, offers a glance at some of BG's formative residents. The docent-led walking tour will be offered at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. this Thursday and introduces patrons to 10 notable inhabitants of the city's first cemetery.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students/ seniors, and free for children 12 and under. Purchase tickets and gather at NAPA Auto Parts about 15 minutes before your desired tour. Visit the link below to learn more. 


Several events are planned as part of the city's Bicentennial Celebration including Friday afternoon's City Hall Open House. This event from 4 to 6 p.m. is open to the public and features food and drink in addition to announcing the student writing contest winners. 

Then on Saturday, head to Circus Square Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Bowling Green Bicentennial Festival featuring Blue Light Special, children's inflatables, a large bungee trampoline, face painting, balloon animals, food vendors, and so much more. "9/29/12 The 2012 Out Of The Darkness Community Walk , Walk to Prevent Suicide , for Bowling Green will be on Saturday, September 29th at 9:00 am at Phil Moore Park, Alvaton, Ky. For more Information call: Darrell Traugber at 270-784-0960 and check out the website at www.outofthedarkness.org."

"9/29/12 HANDS (Housing Assistance and Development Services) is sponsoring a Free Homebuyer Education Class on September 29th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Tomorrow Center in Bowling Green, Ky. Class covers several items to finding the right home to basic home maintenance. Lunch will be provided. For more information or to register for a class call: Anna Byrum at 270-796-4176 extension 1. "

September 29th is also the International Festival.

"10/6/12 South Central Kentucky Heart Walk & 5K Run will be at Kereiakes Park, Bowling Green, Ky. On October 6th 8:00 am with the walk and run starting at 9:00 am. There will be breakfast, silent auction, a Kids Zone, Dog Zone, health booths set up along with a award ceremony at the end. For more information contact Michelle Alloway at 270-846-5061."

Art Shows and Exhibitions

The VSA Exhibit is free and open to the public at the Garden Gallery at the Kentucky Library and Museum this month until March 21st. 745-2592.

Kendall McMinimy is showing his art at the WKU Ivan Wilson FAC Corridor Gallery from Feb. 16-March 23rd. 745-3944.


Capital Arts has a Scholastic Arts Exhibition 02/04 to 02/27.

Martha Duff has an art exhibit at the Bob Kirby branch library through the 28th.

A free WKU Faculty Trombone recital is today at 3 p.m. at the WKU Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. L. Blakeman will be the featured musician.
