Saturday, February 2nd
Today is St. Brigid's Day, also known as Candlemas or Imbolc.

Is having a Pancake Breakfast and Yard Sale on February 1st from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Saturday February 2nd from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm. All you can eat pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy. Today author Lisa Gardner will speak at the CEC Parish Hall next to the Main branch library at 6 p.m. Call 781-4882 to find out if you need to pick up a free ticket or not to attend.

Friday, February 8th
From the WKU Events page for Friday, Feb. 8th: "7 a.m. MACY’S USED BOOK SALE. L&N Depot, 401 Kentucky St. - Through Feb. 10. Proceeds benefit Southern Kentucky Book Fest. Contact Kristie Lowry, 745-4502." (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today)

Morris Jewelry on Fountain Square has a Gem Show from 12-7 p.m.

Also February 8th: Dr. Eli Jackson is having another Smiles from the Heart day. It is first come, first served time for free dental care today from 7-4. This event is for needy people who are over 18 and not pregnant. You can pick up a flyer about it at Chandler Park Dental Care at 1857 Tucker Way, BG. (X-rays, cleanings, extractions, and fillings will be done.) 


PTK shows Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Phoenix Theater at 8 p.m.

Macy's Used Book Sale continues today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PTK shows Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Phoenix Theater at 8 p.m. 

Art Matters at 718 State Street has an adult Make and Take Art Event today for $35.00 starting at 6:30 p.m. You must pre-register to attend.  Call 781-0361.

Cupid's Chase 5K race is today starting at BG High School at 10 a.m. 780-9330.

Sunday, February 10th

"2/15/13 Community Education’s 8th annual Spellabration will take place on Friday, February 15th at the Sloan Convention Center, Bowling Green, Ky. The event raises money for Community Education’s after-school programs, which serve nearly 1,000 children of working families here in Bowling Green, Ky. "2/15/13 Saint James United Methodist Church will be hosting the first ever Empty Bowls Fundraiser in Bowling Green, Ky. Empty Bowls is a project working to end hunger in our communities. Local Potters, Pottery students and hobbyist are working to make bowls to be donated. The event will take place Wednesday, February 13th starting at 5:00 pm. For a $10 donation you will get to pick out a bowl of over 200 bowls then will be served a delicious meal of soup, bread and drink, afterwards the bowls is yours to keep. For more information please call: Garry Taylor at 270-843-4550."


Bridal Fest Winter Expo is on Feb. 17th from noon - 4 p.m. at the Sloan Convention Center.

Chaney's has a benefit Barn Dance on Feb. 22nd from 8-10 p.m. for Jack Haley.

WKU will present the Pirates of Penzance on March 1-3.

Depressed Anonymous support group meets at the ALIVE Center at 1818 31-W today at 1 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 3rd
The WKU Chess Club meets today at 6 p.m. at the WKU Faculty House. This is open to the public. You may want to bring your chess set. Call for info: 1-918-809-6278.

Wow! From the Daily News Around Town section: Today is a special Downton Abbey Preview held at 4 p.m. at the WKU Kentucky building by WKU-PBS. Admission is free, but you must have a ticket. Cal 800-599-2424 for tickets or email wkyutv@wku.edu. There will also be a costume contest, with a prize for the "best Downton-era costume."
 
From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "1/5/13 & 2/5/13 The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center ( SKyPAC) invites artists, art organizations and concerned citizens to join the conversation of how SkyPAC can best serve the region. There will be a meetings on Saturday, January 5th at the Barren River State Park Tartan Room. And Saturday February 5th Each meeting will be divided in into three sessions: 10:00 am for artists , 12:30 pm for arts organizations and 2:30 pm for citizens at large. Sunday, January 6th
From the Wuhu 107 Events pages: "Kidz on Stage - The search is on for the most talented kids in South Central Kentucky.  Auditions for "Kidz on Stage", will be held on Sunday, January 6th from 1:00p. to 4:00p. at the Capitol Arts Center.  South Central Kentucky students from kindergarten through sixth grade are encouraged to audition.  In addition to comedy, we're looking for talent!  Singing, Dancing, Drama, Instruments or other entertaining acts are being sought this year.  Each audition is 90 seconds in length. Any music or props need to be brought to the audition.  Auditions will also be accepted on Youtube visit www.FamilyEnrichmentCenter.com to find out how.  The students who make it past the audition process will be asked to perform live at the Kidz on Stage show.  

The show “Kidz On Stage” begins at 6:30 on Saturday, February 23rd at the Capitol Arts Center with the participants arriving in a limo to a red carpet entrance at 6:15.  Prizes include: 1st place $200 gift card, Runner-up $100 gift card and $50 for Crowd Favorite.  The event is being presented by US Bank.  Tickets are $5.00 for adults and children 3 & under are free and will be sold online at www.theskypac.com or at the event that night."

Tuesday, January 8th
Today the South Central KY Coalition on Homelessness meets at 9 a.m. at the ALIVE Center. This meeting is for anyone wanting to help reduce homelessness. 270-256-4709.

The Community Farmer's Market is open today at the Old Mall from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There is a Frozen 4-Mile Run and 2-Mile Walk today starting at 9 a.m. at Ephram White Park today benefiting Cancer patient Zach Heley of WCHS.

The 12th Annual Train Show and Sale of the Modular Railroad Club of Southern Kentucky is from 10-3 today at the Historic Railpark and Train Museum. Admission is $2.00. 745-9779.

SkyPac features a Juice Newton show at 7:30 p.m.






Sunday, January 13th
Sloan Convention Center has a 12th Annual Wedding Celebration show today from 11-4. Tickets are $10.00 at the door.
