Here are some fun events in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky
for the last part of Aug. and the first part of Sept.
Note: these events are not all free.

Wednesday, September 1st

Welcome Back WKU Festival - Companies will have booths set up at WKU's South Lawn today from 11-3. Western students probably can find some great freebies here. You can rent a booth for $150.00, contact the BG Chamber of Commerce at 781-3200.
Thursday, September 2nd
BG League of Bicyclists Easy Rider Ride. Helmets are required. Starts at Keriakes Park. "Mostly flat -2 hour ride." Suitable for just about any rider and bike. Questions: Call 784-2836.

July Events - - all kinds, in and near Bowling Green, Kentucky

July is full of neat events.
Here are just a few events I found today. I will add more - - and feel free to add more as comments too.

I found a great resource today - - it is the WBKO Community Events page. You can click on any day and find MANY MANY great events here or in neighboring communities.  What a great page!

7-2-10 From the WCVK page: "7/2/10 Thunderfest of Bowling Green featuring TheTyrone Dunn Experiment beginning at 6 p.m., on Friday, July 2 at the National Corvette Museum Amphitheater. Fireworks around 9 p.m. Gates for the event open at 4 p.m. The cost is $15 a carload or $5 an individual. Children’s inflatables will be available for unlimited use with a $10 armband. There also will be tethered balloon rides for $5 each, and food and soft drinks will be for sale."
Thunderfest at the National Corvette Museum Amhitheater. 3-10 p.m, fireworks at dark. http://www.bgkiwanis.org/thunderfest. This event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.

WHAT: Independence Day Bike Parade
WHEN: Saturday, July 3 – bike decorating begins at 8:30 a.m.; parade starts at 9 a.m.
WHERE: Kereiakes Park, Bowling Green
WHY: Celebrate your independence with a patriotic bike parade. Use your own supplies to decorate your bike, stroller, trailer or wheelchair or use our FREE decorations. FREE t-shirts to all participants.

There will be a short parade route around Kereiakes Park suitable for young children or parents with strollers. A longer route for older children and adults will be available too. July 9 and 10: Mark your calendar for the Chaney's Dairy Barn Dinner and a Moo-Vie at Chaney's Dairy Barn, outside at dusk. The movie will be Hotel for Dogs. Bring items for the animal shelter that day, to give to the Humane Society today. Go to their site for more fun events: http://www.chaneysdairybarn.com/ They also have tours by reservation only.

Monday, June 28

Auditions for Sweeney Todd - 5-8 p.m. Capital Arts Center, for Capital Arts Youth Theatre's Summer Musicals. (Grades 6-12)

Today is the last day to pre-register for the Cooking for the Garden presentation at the Warren County Extension Office on Thursday. Sample recipes from Betsy Ann Tracy, and get ideas of how to use fresh fruits and vegetables. 3132 Nashville Road, 842-1681.

Tuesday, June 29

The Bowling Green Hot Rods Baseball Team plays tonight (from WBKO News). Check for ticket prices and more info. at their site: http://bowlinggreen.hotrods.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t2498. Special incentive: if you order your tickets online you get FREE food.

This week in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky June 2-12

Here are some neat events and things to do in and around Bowling Green Kentucky this week and next.

Look for more events to be added as I get them. These are from the What's Happening email news from the Bowling Green Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau and also from the Amplifier online site and the WCVK website.

"June 2 Concerts in the Park Series begins. Noon. This free event takes place Wednesdays in June at Fountain Square Park, Bowling Green, KY." For more information, call 782-0222 or click here.

June 3-6 OR 7 400 Mile Sale, This event is on Highway 68 across Kentucky from Paducah to Maysville from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. There will be antiques, collectibles, and all kinds of yard sale stuff for sale by the roads or in front of stores all along the route. You can go to the 400mile.com website for more information.

June 3-6 Glasgow Highland Games - this is out of town but I have heard great things about it. There is music, games, dancing, food, and festival events. Call 651-3141 or visit the website at www.glasgowhighlandgames.com. You can also see more info. at the Amplifier online site here: More info.

It is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can get maps to the various locations, galleries, and studios at the Visitors Bureau. It is located at 352 Three Springs Road. June 5 National Trails Day Celebration, Lost River Cave and Valley

"Time: The first event begins at 10:00 AM and events will occur periodically throughout the day until 3:00 PM. Cost: All Activities are Free. Lost River Cave is proud to announce its first annual event celebrating the beauty of nature trails all over the country! 393-0077.

Outdoor experts will host a variety of activities including family hikes, guided bike rides, a nature photography seminar and clinic, Geocaching 101, attracting Backyard Birds, and many more activities.
The first event begins at 10:00 AM and the plant pull, being the last event, begins at 3:00 PM!"

June 5: The Bowling Green League of Bicyclists have their Tour de Cave ride today. It begins at Oakland Elementary at 7:30 a.m. You can call 842-6211 or find out more at http://www.bglob.com and register at http://www.active.com.

June 5: The Caveman Chorus will sing at WKU's Van Meter Auditorium today at 7:30. Also, Michigan Jake and the 80-man Music City Chorus of Nashville will also perform. Tickets are $12.50 for adults and $5. for students, in advance. For tickets and info. call 202-0515.

"June 5 Countryfied Harmony, Van Meter Auditorium" by the Caveman Chorus. 7:30 p.m. 202-0515. I could not find this on the WKU lineup. So call about it before you go to make sure. That goes for all the events, just in case. http://www.cavemanchorus.org

June 5: Today is Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill's Adventure Day. It is a day to explore and have fun with your family. Find out more here. You can see the schedule here. Many events are free, but some you need to pay for. You can also go to their site. June 5-6 This is Fee Free Days at Mammoth Cave National Park. Take a trip today and get in for free. They will also have limited free Historic Tours with tickets available at the Visitor Center. You may want to call first. 758-2180, http://www.nps.gov/maca

June 7: the Summer Reading program kicks off at Parker Bennett Curry Elementary School today at 1:30 at the school gym. A new prize will be given to a lucky child 13 and under this year - $1,000 cash.  Visit the website at http://www.warrenpl.org to get more information. The program is for kids and adults this year. Free deals for military, firefighters, police and their families!

FREE ADMISSION TO MAMMOTH CAVE PARK: "Mammoth Cave National Park welcomes all military personnel both active and retired and their families to selected free cave tours on Veterans Day, November 11th."

The article goes on to say that the free cave tours are for the Historic, Frozen Niagara, New Entrance, and Mammoth Passage tours.

FREE ADMISSION (for military, police, and firefighters and families) TO THE NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM: Also, the National Corvette Museum is offering free admission for the whole month of October for firefighters, police officers, military personnel, and their immediate families.
