Countdown to New Year's Eve and Day!

From the WCVK page: "Now-12/31 Rocking’ B Horse and Carriage Company will be offering carriage rides around downtown Bowling Green starting on the square throughout the month of December. Prices are $5 adults, $1 children 13 and under. Half of the proceeds will be donated to different charities including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Kelly Autism Program.

Downtown Bowling Green
Rockin B Horse & Carriage Company will be hosting a fundraising event throughout the month of December. They will be offering beautiful carriage rides around downtown Bowling Green starting at the square on December 3rd, the day after lighting of the square. It is $5 for adults and $1 for children 13 and under (must be accompanied by an adult). Half the proceeds will be dontaed to the charities of that particular week.
December 3-10 donating to Breast Cancer Awareness
December 11-17 donating to Kellie Autism Program
December 18-24 donating to St Judes Children's Research Hospital
December 26-31 donating to The Boys and Girls Club"

From a Corvette Museum email: "The National Corvette Museum has named the entire month of December “Dollar Days” for residents of Kentucky who visit the Museum. All month long, Kentucky residents can tour the Museum for a $1.00 admission per person, and will only need to show a Kentucky drivers license to take advantage of the special offer. Children will be admitted at the $1.00 price with adults presenting the Kentucky identification." Also "Visitors can also take a chance to win a 2011 Corvette or Camaro for only $10 and do some holiday shopping in the Corvette Store."

Now-1/31 KY Dept. of Fish & Wildlife is collecting Christmas trees for fish attractor work in area lakes. Area drop off sites are the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Bldg. on WKU’s farm, off Bennett Lane, Bowling Green, the Barren County landfill, or Allen County Transfer Station. Til Further Notice Madison Ave. General Baptist Church, 1617 Madison Ave., Bowling Green, serves a free hot breakfast the 2nd and last Saturdays of each month, 8-10 a.m. They have sausage, biscuits and gravy, eggs, fried taters, and coffee. All are welcome. For more information call 303-0530.

The 3rd Annual Artworks exhibition is today at the Presbyterian church gallery downtown from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ArtWorks website is here: http://www.artworksinc.org.


Tuesday, December 28th
A free computer class is today from 2-3 p.m. at the BG Main library, Microsoft Excel Advanced. You must pre-register by calling 781-4882.

The Bob Kirby branch library will have a Winter Reading Program event at 6 p.m., a movie based on the Nurse Matilda stories. You must pre-register for this too, by calling 781-4882.

PJ Tales Storytime is at 6 p.m. at the Main Library for families of all ages. Call 781-4882 for more information.

A free computer class, E-mail Intermediate, is to be held at 6-7 p.m. at the Main Library. You must pre-register to attend by calling 781-4882.

December Happenings for the

This month: Veterans have free admission to the National Corvette Museum. Call 781-7973 for details.  Also (from a Corvette Museum email) "The National Corvette Museum has named the entire month of December “Dollar Days” for residents of Kentucky who visit the Museum. From the WCVK Community Happenings Pages: Now-11/30 Bowling Green/Warren County Special Olympics is having signups for athletes and volunteer coaches now through Nov. 30 for basketball teams for the 2010-2011 season which begins in December. Practices are only twice per week. For more information call Bowling Green Parks and Recreation at 393-3584.

  Also: (from WCVK) "Now-12/9 The Vision Multi-Agency Council is collecting retail store gift cards and cash donations now through Dec. 9 to provide Christmas Assistance for youth 13 years of age through high school. Santa photos and visits are this month at Dillards Court at Greenwood Mall through December 24th. Call 782-9047 for hours each day.

The Trees of Christmas event starts at the Eloise B. Houchens Center on Dec. 4th at 1115 Adams Street. It is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturday 0-4, and Sunday 1-4 p.m. The Open House is at 3:00 p.m. From the WCVK page: "Admission is free. Help local children keep a little warmer this winter by making a donation of hats, gloves, and scarves. For more information call 842-6761."  Also featured is "Movies Through the Years."

Riverview at Hobson Grove is having Victorian Holiday Tours from the 23rd until Dec. 19th (except Thanksgiving, when they are closed.) Call 843-5565 or go to their site at http://www.bgky.org/riverview

The Historic Railpark and Museum has a Festival of Trains on Dec. 4th and 5th.

Thursday, December 2nd
From the WKU News Upcoming Events page: "7 p.m. PLANETARIUM SHOW: The Star of Bethlehem. Hardin Planetarium. Contact Roger Scott, 745-4044." This show is also on Sunday at 2 p.m.  First come, first seated, so come a bit early.

IN NASHVILLE: The Downtown Presbyterian Church at 154 Fifth Ave. N. is having its annual fundraising breakfast Waffle Shop. Learn more here at the Metromix site.  From the site: "This long-running Christmas tradition will serve up home-made waffles, turkey hash, southern grits, linked sausages, spiced tea and coffee. All proceeds go to fund the homeless ministries at the Downtown Presbyterian Church. For more information, contact Denny Harris at 615-337-3886 or the church at 615-254-7584." The cost is $6.00 per person.

A 2010 Holiday Bash and Auction fundraising event for charity is taking place at the National Corvette Museum today at 5 p.m. Many prizes, vacation packages, and more will be auctioned, and a concert will take place at 6:30. Check this WBKO page for news about the event, times of events, prize descriptions, and how you can bid ahead of time. Jeffrey Steele, Toby Lightman, and Emily West will be there.

Downtown Lights Up is from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Fountain Square in Historic Downtown Bowling Green. See the lights being turned on for the season, decorations, refreshments, downtown businesses, carriage rides, Santa, entertainment, and more.

WinterDance by the WKU Dance Company is tonight at 8 p.m. at WKU's Russell Miller Theater. Here is information from the WKU Potter College web page. WinterDance will also be shown Friday, Saturday, and Monday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10.00.

Friday, December 3rd

December 11th and 18th: Chaney's Dairy Barn is having a Breakfast with Santa event from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. both days. It is a reservation-only event. You can call to reserve a spot starting on November 1st. (From the website: "Reservations will guarantee a seat, but not where you will sit").

Friday, October 22nd
This is the second day of The Lost River Cave Civil War: Living History Days at Lost River Cave. This is a free event. Make sure to bring earplugs if you go when they will be firing a cannon. The Lost River Cave Civil War: Living History Days has its last day today at Lost River Cave. This is a free event. Make sure to bring earplugs if you go when they will be firing a cannon. Welcome Back WKU Festival - Companies will have booths set up at WKU's South Lawn today from 11-3. Western students probably can find some great freebies here. You can rent a booth for $150.00, contact the BG Chamber of Commerce at 781-3200.

BG League of Bicyclists Easy Rider Ride. Helmets are required. Starts at Keriakes Park. "Mostly flat -2 hour ride." Suitable for just about any rider and bike. Questions: Call 784-2836.
