Cheap and Free stuff to do for the Bowling Green, Kentucky area December 27th 2010 through New Years Day 2011

Countdown to New Year's Eve and Day!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday this week. Here are more cheap and free things to do this week and next. I have selected just a few events to list here.

From the WCVK page: "Now-12/31 Rocking’ B Horse and Carriage Company will be offering carriage rides around downtown Bowling Green starting on the square throughout the month of December. Prices are $5 adults, $1 children 13 and under. Half of the proceeds will be donated to different charities including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Kelly Autism Program.

Downtown Bowling Green
Rockin B Horse & Carriage Company will be hosting a fundraising event throughout the month of December. They will be offering beautiful carriage rides around downtown Bowling Green starting at the square on December 3rd, the day after lighting of the square. It is $5 for adults and $1 for children 13 and under (must be accompanied by an adult). Half the proceeds will be dontaed to the charities of that particular week.
December 3-10 donating to Breast Cancer Awareness
December 11-17 donating to Kellie Autism Program
December 18-24 donating to St Judes Children's Research Hospital
December 26-31 donating to The Boys and Girls Club"

From a Corvette Museum email: "The National Corvette Museum has named the entire month of December “Dollar Days” for residents of Kentucky who visit the Museum. All month long, Kentucky residents can tour the Museum for a $1.00 admission per person, and will only need to show a Kentucky drivers license to take advantage of the special offer. Children will be admitted at the $1.00 price with adults presenting the Kentucky identification." Also "Visitors can also take a chance to win a 2011 Corvette or Camaro for only $10 and do some holiday shopping in the Corvette Store."

Also: Now-12/31 Getting a new cell phone for Christmas? Drop off your old phone at one of BRASS’s 25 recycling bins and help support domestic violence survivors. Your donation is tax deductible. Now-1/31 KY Dept. of Fish & Wildlife is collecting Christmas trees for fish attractor work in area lakes. Area drop off sites are the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Bldg. on WKU’s farm, off Bennett Lane, Bowling Green, the Barren County landfill, or Allen County Transfer Station. Til Further Notice Madison Ave. General Baptist Church, 1617 Madison Ave., Bowling Green, serves a free hot breakfast the 2nd and last Saturdays of each month, 8-10 a.m. They have sausage, biscuits and gravy, eggs, fried taters, and coffee. All are welcome. For more information call 303-0530.

Monday, December 27th
There is a Free Poker Tournament benefitting the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program today at Berlenz Bar and Grill. From SoKy Happenings online: "Free Poker Tournament Benefit 6:00PM

The 3rd Annual Artworks exhibition is today at the Presbyterian church gallery downtown from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ArtWorks website is here: http://www.artworksinc.org.


Tuesday, December 28th
A free computer class is today from 2-3 p.m. at the BG Main library, Microsoft Excel Advanced. You must pre-register by calling 781-4882.

The Bob Kirby branch library will have a Winter Reading Program event at 6 p.m., a movie based on the Nurse Matilda stories. You must pre-register for this too, by calling 781-4882.

PJ Tales Storytime is at 6 p.m. at the Main Library for families of all ages. Call 781-4882 for more information.

A free computer class, E-mail Intermediate, is to be held at 6-7 p.m. at the Main Library. You must pre-register to attend by calling 781-4882.

Wednesday, December 29th
An After-School Special for all ages is held at 3:30 p.m. today at the Graham Drive Branch library. Call 781-1441 for more info.

Thursday, December 30th
The New Year's Drop-In Craft is today from 4-5 p.m. at the BG Main Library. Call 781-4882 for more info.

Cheap and Free events in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky for Monday, December 13, 2010


 These are some selected events in and around the area for Monday, December 13th, 2010.

TONIGHT: (Sunday, December 12th) Masterpiece Classic is showing "Return to Cranford" at 8:00 p.m. tonight. This is part one of two. It is a great show! I have seen it twice already. Just saying.

December Happenings in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky.
This month: Veterans have free admission to the National Corvette Museum. Call 781-7973 for details.  Also (from a Corvette Museum email) "The National Corvette Museum has named the entire month of December “Dollar Days” for residents of Kentucky who visit the Museum. "12/3-12/22 32nd annual Trees of Christmas at Eloise Houchens Center, 1115 Adams St., Bowling Green, will be Dec. 3-22, weekdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sundays 1-4 p.m. Admission is free. Help local children keep a little warmer this winter by making a donation of hats, gloves, and scarves. For more information call 842-6761."

WKU is having their Fall Graduating Seniors Art exhibition this month until the 18th. at Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Gallery, FAC and the Corridor Gallery. Call 745-3944.

Also, 30 Trees of Christmas decorated by students will be on display this month in the Kentucky room of the Kentucky Library and Museum. Call for hours, 745-6082.

The Kentucky Museum on WKU's campus has a Holiday Trees and Ornaments exhibit right now. You can see some pictures of them at their Facebook page here. You can see more events at the Calendar Page. 

This month until the 17th, the Warren County Public Library is collecting gently used mittens, coats, gloves, scarves, and hats for children and adults. They will go on Mitten Trees at the libraries. Call  781-4882 for more info.
  
Monday, December 13th 
 
December 13-16 will be the Polar Express Event. Polar Express readings will be held in the Dining Car at the Historic RailPark and Museum. You must pre-register. Call 270-745-7317. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. http://www.historicrailpark.com/.
 
Santa is visiting 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Greenwood Mall. Also, there is a Snow Show at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Dillard's Court. 782-9047. Pet Night is tonight  with Santa from 6 to 9 p.m.

Ryan's has a Senior Meal Deal today for lunch all week, 1-3 p.m. The price is $5.49 including drink. Call to find out what a Senior is there. 843-1439.

A Free Computer class is at the Main Library at 6-7 p.m. Call first in case it has snowed again, to make sure it is on. In any case, you must pre-register. The class is Beginning Your Resume. 781-4882.

Look for Tuesday and onwards as soon as I can get it typed Monday. :-)

December 18th: Chaney's Dairy Barn is having a Breakfast with Santa event from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. It is a reservation-only event. You can call to reserve a spot starting on November 1st. (From the website: "Reservations will guarantee a seat, but not where you will sit").
