Wednesday, August 8th
A free computer class is today, Microsoft PowerPoint, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Smiths Grove Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 563-6651.

Kroger on Scottsville Road has an event, a Choosing Healthy Food store tour today from 8-9:30 a.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 745-0942.

Thursday, August 9th
A free computer class about Microsoft Excel Intermediate is today from 6-7:30 p.m. at theMain branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

The WKU Chess Club meets at 6 p.m. at the WKU Faculty House. 918-809-6278.











Friday, August 10th 
A free computer class, Job Hunting Online is from 10-11 a.m. at the Main branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

Another free computer class, Microsoft Word Intermediate, is today at the Bob Kirby branch library at 2 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

The Duncan Hines Festival begins today a 5 p.m. and continues tomorrow too. This event benefits Child Development Clinics. Find out more: Duncan Hines Festival. From the Junior Women's Club site:

August 11 the Duncan Hines Festival continues at the Kentucky Library and Museum with an Adventures in Good Baking Contest. Find out more here.

August 11 is Agriculture Night at Chaney's Dairy Barn - 4 - 7:30 p.m. plus Ice Cream and a Moovie featuring the movie "Barnyard."

August 11 and 12 is the Dog Agility Trial at the L.D. Brown Ag Expo Center. 745-3976.

August 14 is a Doll Quilt Workshop at Riverview at Hobson Grove from 3:30 - 6 p.m. 843-5565. You must pre-register to attend by emailing Laura Southard at riverview.at.hg@att.net. The cost is only $5.00 per person. From the City website: "In this two day workshop, each child will learn to piece together and create a small quilt for their doll's bed.".

September 29th is the International Festival.

Fun Events in the Bowling Green Kentucky area Fri. Dec. 2th - Sunday, Dec. 4th

This is a very busy week! There are many more events going on each day here in Bowling Green; just find them via the links to the right on this page.

11-1-11 through 11-30-2011: This is Military Appreciation Month at the Corvette Museum. From the KentuckyLiving site: "All those who have served and their immediate families receive free museum admission."

From the WCVK Community Happenings page: "...Winter Market located in the parking lot of the the old Bowling Green Mall at the instersection of Nashville Rd. and Campbell Lane, is open every Saturday through December 17th from 8:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m with fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, canned items, crafts, artwork and lots of gifts ideas from local farmers and artisans. Hot Breakfast, live music and much more. This event is sponsored by Community Farmer Market."

Friday, December 2nd


Tonight from 5-8 is the last Gallery Hop for Bowling Green. The Pots Place Studio and Gallery will be open on Fountain Square with refreshments for visitors and lots of good deals. From the Visitbg.ky site:

"The galleries, museums and studio centers from around the city invite the public to join them for the 4th annual Bowling Green Gallery Hop. Five Friday evenings out of the year gallery doors will be open to everyone to tantalize their creative senses with great original art. We encourage art enthusiasts and the newly inquisitive to mark your calendars and fill your Friday evenings with artful inspiration. Take this opportunity to observe, ask questions and enjoy getting acquainted with area artists and our city’s gallery locations. Tonight is also the Christmas Market downtown on Fountain Square, so visitors can go to other stores not on the Hop schedule too.

A free math and science class is today at the ALIVE Center on Nashville Road from 4-5 p.m. This is for grades 5-8. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221.  

A free computer class happens today at the Main Library from 9-10 a.m.. It is Online Shopping. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

The Smiths Grove Branch library has Craft Time making Feliz Navidad ornaments for grades K-6 at 3:00. 563-6651.

Wildflower Gifts at Lost River Cave has a free Food and Beverage Tasting today from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

The Festival of Trains takes place today at the Historic Railpark and Train Museum at 401 Kentucky Street, BG. There is free admission from 5-8 and $5.00 admission from 5-8. Children 4 and under are free. 745-7317.

Riverview at Hobson Grove is having a Candlelight Tour from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Find out more at their Facebook Candlelight Tour page.

The Holiday Bash at the National Corvette Museum starts at 6. Find out more.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by PTK is playing at 8 p.m. at the Phoenix Theater. Find out more at their Facebook page.

WKU presents WINTERDANCE at 8 p.m. at Van Meter Auditorium. Tickets are $10.00. 745-5845.

Saturday, December 3rd
The annual Bowling Green Christmas Parade starts at 9:30 downtown. From the BuyLocalBG site: "The Parade starts at Main and College Streets on Fountain Square, the parade will then cross 11th Ave. to go back up State Street and will finish at College and 6th. Will start at 9:30am and end at 11:00 am."

Today is the Fountain Square Christmas Market from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Come by the Pots Place Co-op Studio and Gallery at 428 Main Street (on Fountain Square)  to find many different and unique pottery gifts for that special person. It's the blue building just up from Capitol Arts.


The Festival of Trains continues today from 10-5 p.m. today at the Historic Railpark and Train Museum at 401 Kentucky Street, BG. There will be free exhibits and also a 1/2 price admission to the Museum. 745-7317.

From the Bgky.com site: "Kentucky Museum’s sixth annual holiday celebration, Christmas in Kentucky, is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 3.
"The program, featuring free activities for children and adults, begins right after the Bowling Green Christmas parade with free parking available next to the Kentucky Museum at 1444 Kentucky St. on WKU’s campus. 

All activities are free and include ornament making, gingerbread sampling, a scavenger hunt, games and much more. Enjoy a magician, carolers, musicians, costumed characters and Big Red. Santa and Mrs. Claus visit with children in the Kentucky Room, and are available for photos. Visitors are encouraged to bring their personal cameras for pictures... Sunday, December 4th
The Bowling Green Main library has Toddler Time at 9:30 a.m. and Spanish Explorers at 4 p.m. 781-4882.

See the Star of Bethlehem in a free Planetarium show  at 2 p.m. at WKU's Hardin Planetarium. It is first-come first-served for seats.

The famous Mammoth Cave Sing is today from 2-4 at Mammoth Cave. Find out more: http://www.nps.gov/maca/parknews/cave-sing2011.htm.

Here are some fun events in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky for August. Note: they are not all free. I will be adding more (later events) this week too. Please be sure to check every event before attending, just in case. Some events require pre-registration.

The Beyond the Vessel exhibit at Capital Arts continues until July 16.

"Riverview at Hobson Grove " Riverview at Hobson  Grove is pleased to present the workshop "Creating a Sachet" on  Tuesday, August 10th at 1 p.m.  Plantswoman Esli Pelly of The Garden Patch will lead a workshop to create an aromatic sachet with a variety  of dried flowers and catnip.  For further information, please call  Riverview at 843-5565.  $10 each.  Reservations are required.  Riverview is located at 1100 West Main Avenue in Bowling Green's Hobson Grove Park.

BG League of Bicyclists: Easy Riders Ride. 6 p.m. Suitable for all riders, 1-2 hour ride at an easy pace. Call 270-784-2836. Starts at Keriakes Park. Helmets are required.
