Fun things to do in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area this week, July 31st - August 6th

Here are selected events in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area for Sunday, July 31 through Saturday, August 6th.

Please double-check each event, just in case. 

FYI: the Main branch library will be closed for renovations from August 8 through the 21st for renovations. The other locations will be open.

Sunday, July 31
Beech Bend Raceway has NHRA Drag Racing today, starting at 12 noon. The gates open at 11. 781-7634.

WhaBah Steakhouse has a Kentucky Blues Jam from 6-10 p.m. 782-6400.
Monday, August 1

Friday, August 5
Chaney's Dairy Barn has Ag Night from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. tonight. Enjoy hayrides, pony rides (fee required), and a youth coloring contest. 
Chaney's has Ice Cream and a Moovie at dusk, Dreamer (Ag Night). From their ad in the SoKy Happenings in July: "Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a moovie under the stars. Please no outside food or drink." 

The Gospel Troops will play at the Bowling Green Junior High Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 or $25.00 at the door from a Gospel Troop Member or at Giorgio's at the Greenwood Mall.

A free computer class, Intro to Mac Computers, is from 2-3 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252. Saturday, August 6
 There is a Reptile Expo today through the weekend at the Knicely Center. From the WeGoPlaces website: "The Kentucky Reptile Expo is returning to Bowling Green!!! That’s right, we’re coming back Saturday, from 10am until 4pm at the Knicely Center at 2355 Nashville Road in Bowling Green, KY. Admission is $5.25 per person and kids 6 and under get in FREE. ...Exotic pets, food items and care products at wholesale price. "

Today Compton's Orthodontics on Lovers's Lane sponsors Alex's Lemonade Stand. Entertainment, giveaways, inflatables, more. "Fighting childhood cancer, one cup at a time." Join Compton's at their Facebook Page.

Today is the Grateful Gathering event at Wah Bah Steakhouse, rain or shine. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Kids 12 and under are free.  This is a benefit for the Son Rhea Foundation.

Fountain Square Park has Concerts in the Park tonight. Fountain Square park has Poison Karma at 6:30 - 9 p.m. and Circus Square Park has Exit 4 from 7:30 - 10 p.m.

The 3rd Annual Public Art Hanging Awards Presentation is from 5-8 p.m. at The Gallery at 916 at 916 State Street downtown. Proceeds will go to CASA.

The SoKy Fair has an Airgas Demolition Derby tonight at the Lampkin Park Fairgrounds. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Concerts in the Park are at both Fountain Square Park (6:30 - 9 p.m.) and at Circus Square Park (7:30 - 10). These are free to the public. 782-0222.




Saturday, July 30
Kiwanis Yoga in the Park is today at Keriakes park behind the shelter starting at 8 a.m. for adults, and 9:15 for preschoolers and their families.  782-6984.

The Historic Railpark and Train Museum has a talk at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is invited. The talk, by Robert Lessenberry, will be about the journey and history of a rare Jim Crow segregation car now at the Railpark.

The Bowling Green Evening Lions have a Grand Illusion Magic Show at Warren East High School at 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. (6867 Louisville Road) From their Facebook page: "Illusions you've seen on national TV being performed LIVE on stage! An event suitable for the entire family! With over five tons of equipment, it is the largest show of its kind in central United States. It takes five hours just to load-in and set up the equipment and another two hours to tear everything down and load-out of the building. Beech Bend Park and Splash Lagoon has 1/2 price admission today for kids 12 and under valid at gate only for Kids Fest. They are open 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. This event is sponsored by Crossroads IGA.

Today Chaney's Dairy Barn has a Summer Family Fun Tour. It is $7.00 per person. You must call ahead for reservations. The time is 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. 843-5567.

Chaney's Dairy Barn also has an "I Pledge" project today. From their site: "July 1 | "I Pledge" Project | 4PM - 7PM. Children ages 12 & under are welcome to come to Chaney's and recite from memory the Pledge of Allegiance to receive a free child's scoop of ice cream in a cup or plain cone." It is also Thunderfest tonight starting at 5 p.m. at the National Corvette Museum. This of course has music and a fireworks show, plus booths and more. $5.00 per person or $15.00 per carload.
