Events in Bowling Green, Kentucky for October 2010 #3C

This blog features free and cheap stuff to do in the area - some are free, some are just fun, cool, or neat.

Things still happening this month: Chaney's Corn Maze (and Birthday Bash), and the Jackson's Orchard pumpkin festival.

Monday, October 18th:
The Northern Heights - Parker Bennett community will have a Chili Supper today at 6:30 p.m. This is part of the Celebrate Safe Communities events. See this website for more information.
Also, the BG Presbyterian Church Gallery will feature two jewelry makers today from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., Kay Zoretic and Debbie Modin. 842-4162.

Tuesday, October 19th:
Today will be a WKU Technology Expo at the Mass Media and Technology Hall. Pay parking will be available in front of Diddle arena today. Free tours, Mammoth Cave movie showings, and tours of the TV studio will be offered. Find out more: http://www.wku.edu/techexpo/.

A free adult computer class is held today from 2-3 p.m. at the Kirby Branch library. The class is Mac for Beginners. You must pre-register to take the class by calling 782-0252.
Another computer class for adults is at 2-3 p.m. at the BG Main Library. It is Email Basics. You must pre-register at 781-4882.
Yet another computer class, Facebook Intermediate, is held at 6-7 p.m. at the BG Main Library. Pre-register by calling 781-4882.
The After-School Special is at 3:30 for students of all ages at the Graham Drive community branch library. Call 781-1441 for details.
Thursday, October 21st

(from the mailer postcard) 4-6 p.m., the BG Main library at 1225 State Street will hold a Legislative "Meet and Greet" reception and Proclamation Signing for Friends of Libraries Week. Share your library stories with political candidates and community leaders.
 Right after this, John Carter Cash will have a presentation as part of the library's My Life is an Open Book series at 6:00 p.m. (He is the son of Johnny and June Carter Cash). Free tickets to this are available at the Main library and also at the Kirby branch. Hobson Grove has JACK-O-LANTERN JUBILEE today. (From their email): "

December 11th and 18th: Chaney's Dairy Barn is having a Breakfast with Santa event from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. both days. It is a reservation-only event. You can call to reserve a spot starting on November 1st. (From the website: "Reservations will guarantee a seat, but not where you will sit").

This posting is the second August 2010 update.
August fun events - - updated.

Here are some fun events in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky for August. Note: they are not all free. I will be adding more (later events) this week too. Please be sure to check every event before attending, just in case. Some events require pre-registration.

BG League of Bicyclists: Easy Riders Ride. 6 p.m. Suitable for all riders, 1-2 hour ride at an easy pace. Call 270-784-2836. Starts at Keriakes Park. Helmets are required.

"Riverview at Hobson Grove is pleased to present the program "Nature's Bounty in Textiles" on Tuesday, August 24th at 11:30am. Sandy Staebell, the Registrar and Collections Curator at the WKU Kentucky Museum, will discuss how plants and animals interpret the glory of nature as design elements and pattern names in many historic textiles. Attendees have the opportunity to bring their own quilts and coverlets with natural themes to display and discuss afterwards. For further information, please call Riverview at 843-5565. $15 each.
