I can only get a fraction of the events and things to do this week listed here.

Both Jackson's Orchard and Chaney's Dairy Barn have events this month.

Jackson's Orchard has their Pumpkin Festival weekends this month. 2011 Pumpkin Festival - 5 Fall Weekends "Beginning Saturday, September 24 & Sunday, September 25 then every weekend through the end of October. Oct 1 & 2, Oct 8 & 9, Oct 15 & 16 and Oct 22 & 23. The month of October brings lots of excitement to the Orchard. With Halloween approaching, the color is Orange! You’ll find family fun every weekend for the five weekends before Halloween. That means Wagon Rides to the Pumpkin Patch, Pick-Your-Own Pumpkins, The Corn Maze, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Straw Castle, Face Painting, The Goat Ranch, and The Cider Slider, our Children’s Slide. Not to mention all the Great Food including the Jackson's Orchard Hot Dog Cart! Did we mention Caramel Apples?" 
Chaney's has Hayrides to the Pumpkin Patch every weekend in October for $1.00 per person. Their Corn Maze is open until the 31st, along with their Educational Farm Tours. Go to the site to learn more or call 843-5567.

Sunday, October 16th
The ALIVE Center at 1818 31-W offers an (East) Indian Culture and Heritage (ICH) and Language Class from 10 a.m. to 12 noon today at the ALIVE Center. Languages taught are Hindi, Gujarati and Telegu. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221.

The WKU Planetarium has a free planetarium show at 2 p.m., Year of the Solar System: New Worlds, New Discoveries. This is a first-come, first-served event.

The Alvaton Fire Department has an Open House today from 2-5 p.m. From SoKy Happenings : "Food, fun, and games at 6403 Old Scottsville Road, Alvaton, KY Events include a car fire demonstration, fire truck rides for the kids, and an extrication demonstration with the Jaws of Life." 

The Public Theater of Kentucky (PTK) presents "It was a Dark and Stormy Night" today at 3 p.m. at the Phoenix Theatre. find out more: 781-6233.






Monday, October 17th
The Bob Kirby branch library has Toddler Time at 9:30 a.m. for ages 18-36 months and Kirby Kids today at 3:30 p.m. for elementary age children. 782-0252.
The Main branch library has a free computer class today: MS Excel Intermediate from 6-7:30 p.m. You must pre-register to attend.

The Bowling Green main library has Toddler Time at 9:30 a.m. for ages 18-36 months at 9:30 a.m. and preschool Spanish at 11:30 a.m. 781-4882.

Wednesday, October 19th
The WKU Chess club meets today from 9-12 noon at Barnes and Noble. The public is welcome. You may want to bring your chess set. Ask about it: 918-809-6278.

The Kirby branch library has Kirby Babies at 9:30 a.m. for 6-18 month children. 782-0252.

A free computer class, Genealogy Resources, is at the Kirby Branch library from 2-3 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. 782-0252.

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce presents a Vote 2011: BG Mayoral Race event for the public from 6-7 at the BG Jr. HS Auditorium from 6-7 p.m. Then, from 7:30 - 10:00, learn about the BG City Commission Candidates. Find out more, call 781-3200.

The Skatebox is having a Toys for Tots night from 6-8. Bring in a new unwrapped toy and get free admission and $1.00 skate rental. Bring your own skates and you don't have to pay the skate rental fee. 843-3394.

A presentation on "The Peace Corps: A Historical and Kentucky Perspective" by Jack and Engene Wilson is at Barnes and Noble at 7 p.m. as part of the Far Away Places series. 745-6121.

Friday, October 21st

October 21st is the Bowling Green Gallery Hop from 5-8 p.m. The Pots Place will have new work and snacks at 428 East Main Street. http://www.thepotsplace.com/. Other studios will be open too. The Hobson House has an event for ages 8-12 to learn about a soldier's life during the Civil War at 1 p.m. From their site: "Saturday, October 22 at 1:00pm -- An "unCivil War" Workshop for boys and girls to learn a little about a soldier's life during the war. Kids will learn about Kentucky's status and the causes of the Civil War and then make "soldiers" out of wooden clothespins, also known as clothes pegs. The "soldiers" will stand up or "sit" on cardboard horses and will be able to camp, march, and do maneuvers on a big Civil War map of Bowling Green. And of course we must have refreshments for these hardworking soldiers---hard tack and "swamp water! Reservations are required and individual fees do apply. Class size is limited. A free thanksgiving dinner for the community is held today at  the Eleventh Street Missionary Baptist Church at 1035 Kenton, called "Let Us Break Bread Together." Call 842-4911.

WKU Children's Theater presents 2 shows today. One is at 1:00 p.m. and the other is at 3 p.m. "Spirit Shall Fly" by Mary Hall Surface. Gordon Wilson Lab Theater. Call 745-5845.

Will Sing for Food is taking place today at Christ Episcopal Church at 1215 State Street at 3 p.m. 15 Acts who have collected at least 100 cans for their food drive will perform. This even will stock the American Red Cross Pantry. Public food pantry donations will be accepted as admission. Call 781-7377 for more info.

Sunday, November 21st
St. James United Methodist Church at 575 Winfield Drive, off of Cemetery Road is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Meal at 11:45 a.m. This meal is open to the public. Call 842-4949 for more information.

A C.R.O.P. Hunger Walk is today beginning and ending at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 807 Campbell Lane, to remember the hungry and poor of the world. Bring canned goods for the canned goods drive today also. Contact Chris at 842-4949 for more information.

December 11th and 18th: Chaney's Dairy Barn is having a Breakfast with Santa event from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. both days. It is a reservation-only event. You can call to reserve a spot starting on November 1st. (From the website: "Reservations will guarantee a seat, but not where you will sit").


November 27th, there will be a South Indian Classical Music and Dance Evening at South Warren HS Auditorium. Find out more at the bgky.org calendar here. 


November 30th, there will have a Christmas Card Workshop at Riverview at Hobson Grove.

What's happening in Bowling Green, Kentucky - October 2010 #F
