New updated August Events - free, cheap, and fun events in or near BG, KY

This posting is the second August 2010 update.
August fun events - - updated.

Here are some fun events in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky for August. Note: they are not all free. I will be adding more (later events) this week too. Please be sure to check every event before attending, just in case. Some events require pre-registration.

Thursday, August 12: Literary Cafe at the Graham Drive Branch Library 5 p.m. Like a study hall, call 781-1441 to pre-register and/or check on  availability. Tutors available upon request for homework.

BG League of Bicyclists: Easy Riders Ride. 6 p.m. Suitable for all riders, 1-2 hour ride at an easy pace. Call 270-784-2836. Starts at Keriakes Park. Helmets are required.

Trains at Dusk 6-8 p.m. Historic Railpark. Call for details or fees: 270-745-7317. Museum tour is open, and you can tour the railcars.

Mystery Writer Catherine Coulter will be at Christ Episcopal Church (next to the Main Library). 6 p.m. Free tickets are available at the Main Library and the Bob Kirby branch. Call 781-4882 for details.

The Bowling Green Junior Women's Club is hosting the 14th Annual Duncan  Hines Festival.  This year's events include a Concert in the Park, Art  Exhibit, Adventures in Good Baking Contest and the very popular Uncle  Duncan's Duck Derby! Tuesday, August 17th, 5:30 p.m: (from the Historic Railpark site) "Children's Summer Bedtime Reading Program. Wednesday, August 18 -BG Neighborhood Sewing Group. 10 .m. - 12 noon. Bring your sewing machine, scissors, hread and some material to make Christmas gift items. All skill levels welcome. "Riverview at Hobson Grove is pleased to present the program "Nature's Bounty in Textiles" on Tuesday, August 24th at 11:30am. Sandy Staebell, the Registrar and Collections Curator at the WKU Kentucky Museum, will discuss how plants and animals interpret the glory of nature as design elements and pattern names in many historic textiles. Attendees have the opportunity to bring their own quilts and coverlets with natural themes to display and discuss afterwards. For further information, please call Riverview at 843-5565. $15 each. Also from the Historic Railpark site: Trains At Dusk Open Thursday evenings until 8pm, June 17-August  12. Enjoy the Train Museum and Railpark in the evening.
