Sarah Lüdemann often uses her body and perceived identity to explore psychological states, concepts of self, social roles, religious beliefs and rituals and modes of perception and (re)presentation.
Dichotomies of repetition and stillness, seduction and repulsion, destruction and resurrection give birth to a poetic brutality in Lüdemann’s work. The male/female continuum within her, with regards to social and biological concepts drives Lüdemann to investigate power structures, sexual forces, language as hierachical tool and the dynamics that shape our identities and perceptions. Recently her research has been focused in relations between religion, pornography and pop culture.
Sarah Lüdemann finished an MA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins/Byam Shaw in September 2011. In 2009 she was selected for an influential residency with Mona Hatoum, and has been awarded the South Square Trust Award."
