Art Shows and Exhibitions

The VSA (Very Special Arts) Exhibit is free and open to the public at the Garden Gallery at the Kentucky Library and Museum this month until March 21st. 745-2592.

This is the first day of the Home Expo 2011, which is 5-8 p.m. today at the Sloan Convention Center. The Macy's Used Book Sale - first day notes!

I got over to the L and N Depot today for the Macy's 2011 Used Book Sale. The whole parking lot was full! But there are a LOT of books left, CD's, audiobook sets, cookbooks, children's books, hardbacks and softcover books too.

Hardcover books are just $1.00, and paperbacks are 50 cents each.

The audiobook sets are $2.00 each. Today's sale lasts until 7 p.m.

I hope to go tomorrow morning too. Book lovers, if you have not gone yet, now's the time. The money from this sale will go towards the Southern Kentucky Book Fest this year.

Information about the sale can be had at 745-5016. The sale goes on tomorrow (Saturday) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

I got some really fun books. One is called Notre Dame. It tells the story about Esmerelda and Quasimodo, but has a totally different ending. I also found some cat-themed detective books and a book on ancient Egypt. Rickey found some great philosophy books and we both got a poetry book or two.

There are lots more book deals there yet. I saw at least three people with hand-held computers going through the books, many book piles, and a book buyer stuck in the middle of his piles of books cross-legged, who looks like he is staying for awhile.

The lines aren't too long, and they have plenty of bags and boxes. If you can bring a smallish purse, that may help. My too-big one kept getting jostled. Just saying!

From the WKU Events Calendar: A WKU Faculty Recital is today and is free to the public. It is at Ivan Wilson FAC 0189 from 3-5 p.m. Contact wayne.pope@wku.edu for more information. 745-3751.

A Community Super Bowl Party is being held at Cornerstone Church today at 940 Bryant Way across from the mall on Scottsville Road. Doors are opening at 4 p.m. 16 foot screens, bring your favorite finger foods and a friend. Everyone is welcome. 

The Macy's Used Booksale is today at the L & N Depot. Today's hours are 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.


The VFW at 1298 Ky. Highway 185 is also having a Super Bowl Party starting at 12 noon. $10.00 buffet all you can eat, plus the game will be shown on a 10' x 10' screen. Questions, call Dean Frazier at 270-781-1872.

The Evening Star Chapter #126 is having their Annual Soul Food Dinner from 11 a.m. until sold out at the Prince Hall Masonic Temple at 403 Chestnut Street.  Dine in or carryout only. 843-2132.

 Today Romeo and Juliet plays at 3 p.m. at the Phoenix Theater, 545 Morris Alley.  Tickets are $13.00 for adults, and $10.00 for seniors and students. 781-6233.
