Fun Events in the Bowling Green Kentucky area this weekend plus, August 31st through September 3, 2012

Here are some selected events for this weekend, plus Monday of this holiday weekend.

Be prepared for many sales and fun things to do this weekend in the area.

Friday, August 31st
Today is The National Corvette Museum second day of their 18th Anniversary Celebration and Hall of Fame Induction activities. Find out more: 2012 NCM 18th Anniversary and Hall of Fame Induction : August 30 - September 1, 2012.
Today they have a speaker, Wesley Wong, senior FBI on-scene commander at Ground Zero, who will speak about 9-11, at 10 a.m.  He is also speaking tomorrow at 9 a.m.

The Little Mermaid, Jr. shows today at WKU's Van Meter Auditorium at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Find out more: 779-2185. They also have a performance tomorrow at 7 p.m.

There are Concerts in the Park tonight from 6-10, at Fountain Square Park and also Circus Square Park. 782-0222.


Saturday, Sept. 1 starts the 2012 Applefest at Jackson's Orchard. 781-5303.

Sunday, Sept. 2

The Bowling Green Hot Rods baseball team has FAn Appreciation Day today at 2 p.m. and a game. Check out more info: 901-2121 or http://www.bghotrods.com.

Honk, Jr., the Musical plays today at 3 p.m. at the PTK (Public Theatre of Kentucky) Phoenix Theater at 545 Morris Alley. Tickets are $8.00 and $10.00. 781-6233.

The WKU Hardin Planetarium has a free planetarium show today at 2 p.m. called Curiosity on Mars. Seating is first-come, first served. 745-4044. 

Monday, Sept. 3

Today is Labor Day. Have a great holiday today.

Besides great sales all over the place in the BG, KY area, the Applefest continues at Jackson's Orchard from 8-6.  781-5303. 

Also, there is a Run for Sight race event 5K and 2-Mile Walk with proceeds providing eyeglasses and eye exams. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. at Covington Woods Park. It is sponsored by the BG Noon Lions Club. See more info. here at the Running Zone site.

The Hot Rods baseball team has its Season Finale today at 12 p.m. noon. 901-2121 or http://www.bghotrods.com.

"9/15/12 The “Running For St. Jude 5K and 1 Mile Walk" will be on September 15th At Phil Moore Park Alvaton, Ky. Registration starting at 7:30 am. With races following afterwards at 8:00 for the 5K run and 8:30 the 1 Mile Walk. The cost is $20 for the run and $15 for the walk. "9/21/12 Jody Richards Elementary School, Bowling Green, Ky. will he having their Fall Festival on September 21st from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. There will be inflatables and lots of games. BBQ and other goodies will be available and all funds raised will help pay for a new playground. For more information please call Katie Frassinelli at 270-792-7228."

"9/22/12 The South Central Kentucky Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be Saturday, September 22nd at Preston Miller Park, Bowling Green, Ky. Registration will begin at 9:00 am and the walk will begin at 10:00. Register your team online by visiting www.alz.org."

"9/29/12 The 2012 Out Of The Darkness Community Walk , Walk to Prevent Suicide , for Bowling Green will be on Saturday, September 29th at 9:00 am at Phil Moore Park, Alvaton, Ky. For more Information call: Darrell Traugber at 270-784-0960 and check out the website at www.outofthedarkness.org."

September 29th is also the International Festival.

Wednesday, July 4th
Today is Independence Day.

From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "7/4/12 Southside Baptist Church, 557 Memphis Junction Road, Bowling Green, Ky. Will be having a July 4th Cookout and Fireworks. The cookout will begin at 6:00 pm and fireworks display will be at dark. This event is free. For more information please call: Tony Brown at 782-5558"

Chaney's Dairy Barn is open today until 9 p.m.! This is via their Facebook page.

Thursday, July 5th
On the Bone Chop House at 729 Chestnut Street is offering Law enforcement, fire and rescue, and military 10% off with I.D. or uniform today.

The WKU Chess Club meets at 6 p.m. at the WKU Faculty House. 918-809-6278.










Neal Morse has a benefit concert today for the Son Rhea Foundation at 7 p.m. at the Sloan Convention Center. Tickets are $30.00 in advance, and $40.00 and $20.00 (students) at the door.

Friday, July 6th
A free computer class is offered today "Resume Workshop" at the Smiths Grove branch library from 10-11 a.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 563-6651.

Another free computer class is today "Introduction to Computers and the Internet" at 2-3 p.m. at the Main branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

Tonight is Concerts in the Park at both Fountain Square Park and Circus Square Park in downtown Bowling Green from 6:30 - 10. Concert starts in Fountain Square Park at 6:30, and features Song Farmers (bluegrass/ Celtic) and follows with Ernie Small Blues Band at Circus Square Park starting at 7:30. More info. from the WCVK Community Happenings page: "7/6/12 Dine and Enjoy Free Music Under the Stars, Friday July 6th 2012, 7:30 pm. at the Circus Square Park, with the Ernie Small Blues Band. Events in the Bowling Green Kentucky area Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, June 23-25

 June 23-25, Saturday through Monday in the Bowling Green Kentucky area.

It has been great weather, but we could use some rain in the next few days.

Saturday, June 23rd
Today the WKU Chess Club is sponsoring a Stakz Super Cool Summer Block Party Chess Tournament from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. K through 12 players only. Register online at http://www.hilltopperchess.net. Cost is $10.00.

The Historic Rail Park and Train Museum is having Rail Tales at 10 a.m. for preschoolers. 745-7317.

A benefit Garden Tour and Tea is today to benefit Kids on the Block. Tickets are $20.00 each. Call 842-2259 for info. From the Facebook page:

Sunday, June 24th
Today is the Butterfly Celebration at Lost River Cave at 1-4 p.m. Find out more at the Lost River Events page. From the website: "On Sunday, June 24 from 1pm – 4 pm, rain or shine, families flock to the valley to release a butterfly. The first 200 kids to arrive at the Butterfly Habitat will set a butterfly free in the garden."

Monday, June 25th
Today the Bowling Green libraries have special events. Go to the Library pages for more info. (click on the Events link).

Chaney's Dairy Barn has Farm Tours today at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. These must be booked ahead of time. Go to their website to find out more, and to their Farm Tour page.

Friday, September 9th

The Special Olympics State Softball Tournament starts at 9 a.m. at Buchanon Park, and goes all day. 842-5302, http://www.soky.org.

Sept. 9th is a kickoff concert for the WKU Redshirts and Treblemakers at First Christian Church from 7:30 - 9 p.m. Admission is just $2.00 per person. Contact the music dept. for more info: 270-745-3751 or email Dr. Paul Hondorp at paul.hondorp@wku.edu.

Lil' Angels Attic is from 9 am. to 7 p.m. at 1323 Melrose. Get used children's clothing, toys, shoes, etc. and help children and families in the community.

Robin Hood is playing at 7 pm. at the Phoenix Theater, presented by the Sunburst Youth Theater. Call 781-6233 for reservations.

The Bob Kirby branch library has Preschool Spanish at 9:30 a.m. for ages 3-5 years and Preschool story time at 10:30 a.m. (782-0252), and the Main Branch library has Peek-A-Book Babies at 9:30 a.m. for ages 6-18 months, and Preschool story time at 10:30 a.m. (781-4882).

Balloons, Tunes and BBQ starts at 3 p.m. with free admission at the BG-WC airport. 745-7532.

The ALIVE Center at 1818 31-W has a math and science class today from 4-5 p.m. for grades 1-8. Call 746-9508 or 502-544-7221.

A free concert by WKU Music, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Masterclass, and Dr. Ching-Yi Lin is at 5:00 p.m. at the WKU Fine Arts Center. 745-3751.

Saturday, September 10th

Today is the Second Saturday Street Fair in downtown Bowling Green at Fountain Square. 782-0222. Join us from 9-5:30 for sidewalk sales, food, booths, music, and more. The Pots Place (http://www.thepotsplace.com) will be offering kid's classes by Laura Bain-Selbo too (Call her for a reservation: 1-717-679-6258). http://www.downtownbg.org.

September 10th (today), The Octagon Hall Museum in Franklin will have a Ghost Hunt. 1-866-559-4741. http://www.GhostHuntWeekends.com. You can not get a ticket at the door.
 

Also on 9-10: (From the WCVK Community Happenings Page) "09/10/11 Food Drive, the need is still there to help feed a family on Saturday, September 10th 2011 from 9am-3pm. . Staff from WKU Public Radio, WKYU-PBS and volunteers will accept donations of canned food items at WalMart off Campbell Ln in Bowling Green. They will also accept cash contributions on behalf of the American Red Cross to purchase additional needed food items. All donations directly benefit those in need here in South Central KY. A shopping list of needed items to be donated will appear in the Daily News and will also be available at Walmart on Sat. the 10th. The list is also posted on the station website at WKYUPBS.org. Only food items listed will be accepted."

Monday, September 12th

Library happenings today: Kirby Kids meet at the Kirby branch library today at 3:30 for elementary age students. Toddler Time is at the Main branch library for ages 18-36 months. Time is 10:30 a.m.

Robin Hood is playing at the Public Theater of Kentucky Phoenix Theater at 7 p.m. It is being put on by the Sunburst Youth Theatre. Call for reservations: 781-6233.

Woody Lingle and Dann Sherrill are playing music at 7:30. - 9:30 p.m. at WKU's Fine Arts Center FAC 189. This is a free concert as part of the Master Artists series.
