Here are selected events for today (Sunday, August 5th) through Wednesday, August 8th

Sunday, August 5th
Beech Bend Park has the 11th Annual NMCA Hot Rod and Muscle Car Nationals this weekend. For more info: 781-7634, http://www.beechbend.com/dragstrip.htm and the Event Preview.

CASA of South Central Kentucky has a Tennis Tournament today at Keriakes Park. 782-5353. See more about it at their Facebook page here: CASA's FB Page. (Their rain date is August 13-14).

Today is the WKYU-PBS Pool Party at Russell Sims Aquatic Park from 1-5 p.m. Tickets for $1.00 off regular admission are available at BG McDonald's locations. Find out more: WKU News

Chaney's Dairy Barn has a celebration today - the Kentucky Monthly August Issue Celebration from 3-5 p.m. 843-5567. They will feature "buy one scoop, get one free in a cup or plain cone" (from their website) and "Register to win prizes... including a trip to Opryland Resort." NEW NEW - - just added: There will be a FREE celebration starting at 8 a.m. of the arrival of NASA's Curiosity Rover on Mars on Sunday, August 5th. Find out more: http://wkunews.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/16552/.

"The public is invited to join area astronomers at Western Kentucky University’s Hardin Planetarium Sunday (Aug. 5) for a free celebration of the arrival at Mars of NASA’s Curiosity rover.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and just before midnight, the event culminates with a chance to watch the live NASA-TV satellite feed from Mars Science Laboratory mission control of Curiosity’s scheduled entry, descent and 12:30 a.m. landing on Mars. Through out the night there will be Mars themed activities, speakers and exhibits for all participants to enjoy, including demonstrations of orbital mechanics, balloon-powered rocket challenges, and discussions of “The War of the Worlds” and other fictional tales of Martians or life on Mars. From twilight until about 10:30 p.m. participants may view Mars and Saturn through small telescopes."

Monday, August 6th
August 6 is a Summer Stroll on Indianola from 7-8 p.m. The Rain Date is the 27th. See more about it:  Summer Stroll on Indianola, High Streets.

All Warren County Public libraries will be closed today for Inservice training.

A Nurse Assistant Training Program is today from 8-4 p.m. run by the Red Cross. This class is held every Monday,Thursday, and Friday through August 31st. Find out more: 502-561-3771.

Fountain Square Players has auditions from 7-9 p.m. for their new play, Perfect Wedding, at 313 State Street. 782-3119, extension 313 for more information.

August 7 is a free computer class at the Main branch library, Microsoft Excel Basics from 2-3:30 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. 781-4882.

Wednesday, August 8th
A free computer class is today, Microsoft PowerPoint, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Smiths Grove Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 563-6651.

Kroger on Scottsville Road has an event, a Choosing Healthy Food store tour today from 8-9:30 a.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 745-0942.

Other fun events are coming up.

August 10 is the Gallery Hop from 5-8. Come visit the potters at The Pots Place at 428 East Main Street!
August 10 will also be Concerts in the Park from6:30 - 10 p.m.
August 10-11 is also the Duncan Hines Festival at Circus Square Park.

August 11 is Agriculture Night at Chaney's Dairy Barn - 4 - 7:30 p.m. plus Ice Cream and a Moovie.
August 11 and 12 is the Dog Agility Trial at the L.D. Brown Ag Expo Center. 745-3976.
August 14 is a Doll Quilt Workshop at Riverview at Hobson Grove from 3:30 - 6 p.m. 843-5565. You must pre-register to attend by emailing Laura Southard at riverview.at.hg@att.net. The cost is only $5.00 per person. From the City website: "In this two day workshop, each child will learn to piece together and create a small quilt for their doll's bed.".
September 29th is the International Festival.

Events in the Bowling Green Kentucky area Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, June 23-25

 June 23-25, Saturday through Monday in the Bowling Green Kentucky area.

It has been great weather, but we could use some rain in the next few days.

Saturday, June 23rd
Today the WKU Chess Club is sponsoring a Stakz Super Cool Summer Block Party Chess Tournament from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. K through 12 players only. Register online at http://www.hilltopperchess.net. Cost is $10.00.

The Historic Rail Park and Train Museum is having Rail Tales at 10 a.m. for preschoolers. 745-7317.

A benefit Garden Tour and Tea is today to benefit Kids on the Block. Tickets are $20.00 each. Call 842-2259 for info. From the Facebook page:

Sunday, June 24th
Today is the Butterfly Celebration at Lost River Cave at 1-4 p.m. Find out more at the Lost River Events page. From the website: "On Sunday, June 24 from 1pm – 4 pm, rain or shine, families flock to the valley to release a butterfly. The first 200 kids to arrive at the Butterfly Habitat will set a butterfly free in the garden."

Monday, June 25th
Today the Bowling Green libraries have special events. Go to the Library pages for more info. (click on the Events link).

Chaney's Dairy Barn has Farm Tours today at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. These must be booked ahead of time. Go to their website to find out more, and to their Farm Tour page.
