BG blog posting for January 9-16 Version A

Welcome to the Cheap and Free events listings for this week.

Check this out: The Community Education Winter Classes catalog is now online. Some classes start this month, some next month. The class schedule and the signup sheet download to your desktop as pdf files. If you do not have a pdf reader, you can download one for free here.

ART EXHIBITS THIS MONTH

Kristina Arnold's "re cycle" exhibit shows this week at the Capital Arts center from 9-5. 782-2787.

The Gallery at 916 has a Photography exhibit this week from 11:30 a.m. - 5p.m. through February 12th. Voting is $1.00 and goes to CASA. 270-843-5511.

Warren County Library's Bob Kirby branch has an exhibit by Missi Carini and Jenny Morehead through January 28th.

Brenda Brown's art will be shown at the Main Branch library in the Porter Cafe through January 28th too.

The Country Peddler Design-an-Ad Contest  is on exhibit at the Mezzanine Gallery at the Capital Arts Center this month. 782-2787.


A FAVORITE... Lost River Cave's hours this month are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gift Shop is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tours of the Cave are at the top of each hour.

Sunday, January 9th
From the WBKO Community Events Calendar: Zumba Jam. Jan 9, 2011 2:00-3:30pm, Old Alvaton Gym (6350 Old Scottsville Rd). Fundraiser for the 10U National Ky Bearcats Baseball team. Jaime Hawks, 270-779-8928. This event is $10.00 per person.

Downton Abbey premieres Sunday on PBS Masterpiece Theater. You can get it even with just basic cable. It is bound to be good. Check it out here.  Twitter will have a live event during the showing. Just post to twitter using the tag #DowntonPBS.

Monday, January 10th

A free computer class, Introduction to Computers and the Internet is held today from 2-3 p.m. at the Main Branch Library's Porter Cafe. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

Another free computer class, Microsoft Excel Intermediate, is held today at 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Main Branch Library's Porter Cafe. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

Orchestra Kentucky has a concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. called "Fiddle Faddle, The Music of Leroy Anderson." Call 846-2426 for tickets or call 855-232-1452 (toll-free). A Cabin Fever Workshop takes place today at 6 p.m. at the Kirby branch of the Warren County Library. Alice Waddell will teach a painting class. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

Wednesday, January 12th

A Free MacBook Computer class, Computing for Seniors, takes place today at 2-3 p.m. at the Bob Kirby branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

Another free class, Digital Catalog Downloading, is from 2-3 p.m. today at the Main Branch library's Porter Cafe. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

An after-school special "for students of all ages is today at 3:30 at the Graham Drive library.

Friday, January 14th

Barnes and Noble have Storytime featuring "How Full is Your Bucket?" today at 11:30 a.m. 746-9779.
Southern Lanes has Senior Fun Day today at 1 p.m. for ages 50 and over. Free coffee, prizes, and more. Call 843-8741.

 
Saturday, January 15th
Today is the 2011 Winter Antique Tractor Show at the Ag-Expo Center. Tickets are $3.00 and 12 and under are free.
Barnes and Noble will have a book signing by author David Toczko, who wrote "Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill: 50th Anniversary of the Restoration" at 2 p.m. today. 746-9779.

Sunday, January 16th
Today is the Lady Topper Basketball "Critter Classic" at Diddle Arena at 2 p.m. Are you a member of Big Red's Rascals? Bring a needed item like clay cat litter or Clorox wipes, and receive a free game ticket. Friends and family can purchase tickets for $5.00 per ticket. 1-800-5-BIGRED.

Very Special Arts (VSA) has an art exhibit that starts today. Their opening is 2-4 p.m. at the Garden Gallery of the Kentucky Museum. 745-2592.
