Cheap and Free Events for this week, June 21-26, 2011

Here are just a few of the many things you can do this week in and near Bowling Green, Kentucky Monday, June 21st through Sunday, June 26th.

Monday, June 20th
The 4-H Horse Show is today at the Ag-Expo Center. This event goes on until Wednesday. Find out more: 4H Horse Show.

Dance Arts has a Day Camp starting today and going until June 24th. It is "Bieber Fever". Find out more: 842-6811. http://www.danceartsbg.com.

Chaney's Dairy Barn has tours today. Find out more at the "More Stuff for June" page.

The Historic Railpark has a Hobo Quilts show and book signing starting at 10 a.m. today. (10-12 and 1-2). 745-7317. This is a free event.

There is a Chinese Dragon Demonstration by Shaolin Kung-Fu at 6:00 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal church next to the Main Library. 781-4882.

A free computer class, MS Excel Advanced, is at 6-7:30 p.m. at the Main Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

The Hobo Ball is tonight from 6-9 p.m. at the L & N Depot. 745-7317.Tickets are $15 each or 2 for $25.00. You must reserve your space. Call 745-7317.

Kentucky Blues Society has their Teen Jam from 6-9 at Wha Bah Steakhouse. Free admission. 782-6400.

Tuesday, June 21st
Today is Litha/the Summer Solstice. It is the longest day of the year.

The 4-H Horse Show continues today at the Ag-Expo Center. This event goes on until Wednesday. Find out more: 4H Horse Show.

"Venus, Our Sister Planet" is playing at the WKU Hardin Planetarium at 7 p.m. There is no charge, and it is first-come, first served seating.

Wednesday, June 22nd
The 4-H Horse Show's last day is today at the Ag-Expo Center starting at 9 a.m. Find out more: 4H Horse Show.

There is a Concert in the Park at Fountain Square Park today featuring Noizejoi starting at noon. Bring a picnic and chairs! The concert is free. 782-0222.

The Graham Branch public library is having Graham Troopers today for school students at 3 p.m. They will be doing Magna Drawing.

A free computer class, Introduction to Genealogy Resources, is from 6-7 p.m at the Main Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

St. James United Methodist Church at 575 Winfield Drive is hosting a book discussion at 6:30 p.m. about "Heaven is Real" by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent. The public is welcome.

Thursday, June 23rd
A free computer class is today from 2-3 p.m. at the Main Branch library. It is MS Excel Intermediate. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

The musical "Oliver" by Fountain Square Players is at the Phoenix Theater for a School Day performance today at 9:30 a.m.  Call for tickets: 782-3119.

A free MacBook computer class is also today at the Bob Kirby Branch library from 6-7 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

Warren RECC is having their Annual Meeting today at 4:30 p.m. at Greenwood High School. The business meeting is at 6:30 p.m. They will be giving away a free bucket and light bulbs, and will have face painting for kids.

The BG League of Bicyclists has an easy ride today starting at Keriakes Park at 6 p.m. Bring your bike and a helmet.

The WKU Chess Club meets today at the Log Cabin on the WKU Campus from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome.  Questions, call 918-809-6278. You may want to bring your chess set.

The Fountain Square Players are presenting "Oliver", the musical, at 8 p.m. at the Phoenix Theater. Call 782-3119 for ticket information. This musical continues Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Friday, June 24th

Chaney's also has "Ice Cream and a Moovie" at dusk featuring the movie Happy Feet. Bring an outside chair, but please no food or drink.

Saturday, June 25th
Crosswinds Golf Course has a Pickens Amateur Championship today. Call them at 270-393-3559 for more information.

The Kiwanis Club is sponsoring Yoga in the Park with Shanda starting at 8 a.m. in Keriakes Park behind the shelters. 9:15 starts Playground Yoga for preschoolers and their families.
Sunday, June 26th

The Red Cross has a training for volunteers today at 430 Center Street called Providing Emergency Assistance from 8-5 p.m. Call to sign up at 781-7377.

Summer for the Soldiers event is from 10-3 today at the Southern Lanes Parking Lot. Find out more: http://www.soldierssuipportofbg.webs.com.

A Garden Club Fashion Show is today from 10-6 at  Pappagallo at 2020 Scottsville Road.

A Garden Tour and Tea for Kids on the Block is today. Tickets are sold at Rileys Bakery or call 842-2259. Tickets are $20.00 and $25.00 the day of the event.

Sunday, June 26th

The Annual Butterfly Celebration is today at Lost River Cave and Valley's Charles M. Miller Butterfly Habitat. The first 100 children to arrive get to release a butterfly into the habitat. Many other activities are planned. 393-0077.
