Fun Events in the Bowling Green Kentucky area Jan. 1-8, 2012

I just had to use this cute Happy New Year photo again.

A huge thanks goes out to everyone who plans all the great events here in Bowling Green, Kentucky throughout the year. This is just a few of the many events going on in the Bowling Green Kentucky area.

From the WCVK Community Happenings page: "Now- 1/31/12 Kentucky Dept of Fish & Wildlife is collecting "real" Christmas trees for fish attractor work in area lakes. Area drop off sites are Kentucky Fish & Wildlife bldg. in Bowling Green off Bennett Lane on WKU's farm, the Glasgow Regional landfill, or Allen County-Scottsville Transfer station. For more information call 746-7129." 


Also: "Now- 1/13/12 Community Education and U.S. Bank, Bowling Green, KY, invite young people in grades K-12 to participate in this year’s art contest, Bee-ing Good Neighbors. Children are ask to design posters about being good neighbors in the community. For ideas on the theme and details on the art contest, you can visit the website at http://commed.us/spell/artentry.pdf or call: 842-4281 Entry forms are available on the website or at US bank branches. The deadline for entries is January 13, 2012."

Downtown

The Pots Place is open Tuesday - Saturday from 11-3. Find pottery and unique gifts, including Fairy Doors, trays, Nut Heads, pitchers, mugs, plates, vases, and lots more.

There are many other original stores downtown. Come visit all the stores there for fabulous sales and fun.


Library Events

The Recreation and Outreach Center at First Baptist Church on 12th Avenue has a Better Life Fitness class today from 9-10 am. Class is $3.00 per class or free with a yearly membership. Find out more: 842-1019.

Tuesday, January 3rd
The Recreation and Outreach Center at First Baptist Church on 12th Avenue has a Zumba class today at 6:30 p.m. and also a CoreFit class at the same time. Class is $10.00 or $40.00 for 10 classes. Find out more: 842-1019.

There is a meteor shower starting at nightfall - the Quadrantids Meteor Shower. Find out more: http://spaceweather.com/meteors/quadrantids/quadrantids.html. On the site it says that this meteor shower will be most visible near dawn. Many people miss this show because it is so cold.

Wednesday, January 4th

A free computer class is offered today "Learn to Download Books and Audiobooks" at 2-3 p.m. at the Main Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

This is REDZ Dollar night at WKU's 4th floor Rec Center at DUC from 6 - 10:45 p.m. The price is $1.00 per hour, and the public is invited. 745-2456.

St. James United Methodist Church has a Chili Cook-off and Competition today starting at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited. 842-4949.

Thursday, January 5th

The Bowling Green Main Branch library has a free computer class today, Introduction to Genealogy Resources, from 6-7 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

WKU has an Honors Bands event today. From the WKU Blog Events Page"8 a.m.  KMEA THIRD DISTRICT HONOR BANDS. Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center, Downing University Center and Van Meter Hall. Contact Gary Schallert, 745-3751."

The Main Branch library also has a cooking class at 6 p.m., "A Fun Thyme Cooking." Call to find out more: 781-4882.

Fountain Square Players puts on the play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Phoenix Theater starting tonight at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 and $12.00 per person. 782-3119. This play is also offered Friday through Sunday.

Tonight is Friday Night at REDz at WKU's DUC 4th floor from 6 - 10:45 p.m. Price is $5.00 for the public (no WKU ID)  and $3.00 for students with a WKU ID.745-2456.

There is a Vette City Roller Derby Boot Camp for ages 18 and over today at The Skate Box starting at 5:30 p.m. All skill levels are invited. Call for more info: 843-3394.

From 2:00p.m.to 5:00 p.m. Parents Saturday Out is is offered the third Saturday of every other month. Each session will include an age appropriate craft, recreation, movie and snack. January 27th: Today is the PRISM Concert at WKU.
