More things to do in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area for April 2013 - just added: the local BGAMUG Computer Club meeting.

Sunday, April 21st:  There is a Men's, Women's and Children's Chorus event today from 4-6 p.m. at Van Meter Hall. Find out more: paul.hondorp@wku.edu.

Monday, April 22nd:  There is a free voice recital at 5:15 at the FAC Recital Hall. More info. at the Community Events page (more concerts too). "Studio Recital of the Voice Students of Beth Pope, accompanist Julie Pride."

Monday April 22nd is also Global Earth Day. 

FYI: April 22-26 is National Volunteer Week. 

Tuesday, April 23rd: via ALIVE - "CANstruct for a Cause encourages campus and community members to collect items and participate in a local food drive benefiting the American Red Cross, HOTEL INC, and WKU Food Abides. The WKU ALIVE Center is hosting CANstruct for a Cause on April 23rd from 3pm-6pm at the WKU Small Business Development Center on Campbell Lane beside Big Lots. Anyone interested in participating in CANstruct for a Cause should visit http://www.wku.edu/alive/volunteerism/canstruct_for_a_cause.php or call 270-782-0082 before March 22, 2013 to sign up."

Saturday, April 27th: via the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "4/27/13 CASA Superhero Run/Walk presented by Bowling Green Athletic Club will be Saturday, April 27th at 5:00 pm at Kereiakes Park, 1220 Fairview Ave, Bowling Green, Ky. You are encouraged to dress up like your favorite superhero to show your spirit as a hero against child abuse and neglect. Event registration and check In starts at 4:00 pm $20 per person for the run/walk, There will be a relay as well $15 a person or $45 for a 3 person team. A family dash for families with small children at not cost but please register for it. Call 270-782-5353 for more information."

Friday, April 26th is also the Hope for the Homeless day Event at at the South Central Bank Campbell Lane parking lot. Bring canned goods, money, and nonperishable personal items to the event to help the homeless via family resources centers and Hotel, Inc. 

The Hotel Inc. site says: "April 26-29, Hope for HOMELESS – hosted by the Southern KY REALTOR’s Association, located at South Central Bank on Campbell Lane.  Donations of food, tents, sleeping bags, tarps, hygiene items, cleaning supplies and monetary will be accepted.  You can participate in the event by camping out for the night or weekend too. 2013 Hope for [...]"

Also Saturday, April 27th: From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "4/27/13 2013 Household Hazardous Waste and E-Scrap Day will be taking place on Saturday, April 27th at the Eastwood Baptist Church parking lot, 500 Eastwood Street, Bowling Green ,Ky. From 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Free disposal of items such as paint , chemicals, Household appliances, and electronics. For more information please call: 270-843-5353 or go to www.warrencountygov.com."

Saturday, April 27th: The Hope for the Homeless event continues today at South Central Bank's parking lot on Campbell Lane. See the description here.

"April 27 from 1-4pm 

Join friends and neighbors as we help rid the park of invasive plants and restore the natural habitat.  An on-going project; invasive removal is key to improving the forested Valley.  Come for the entire time, or stay as long as you can - all help is appreciated.  Register in advance for special door prizes. 

Be sure to wear sturdy shoes; long pants and sleeves are recommended as Poison Oak may be encountered.

At the Gold Course at Riverview, 1200 West Main Street, Bowling Green, Ky. Pre-registration is encouraged. Contact Bowling Green Parks and Recreation at 270-393-3249."

Sunday, May 5th: Get in to the Historic Railpark and Train Museum for only $5.00 today from 1-4  (because it's the 5th). Just mention the 5th Anniversary.

Friday, May 10th: From the South Central Kentucky Coalition on Homelessness FB page: "Job Readiness Workshop, pass along the information to anyone this could benefit: Life & Money Matters, a job readiness and information workshop will be held at the Housing Authority of Bowling Green - Learning Center on 247 Double Springs Road. The event begins at 9:00AM; registration will open at 8:30AM - all workshops will conclude at 12:00PM. Several local service agencies are participating and free health screenings will be available. Information about personal empowerment such as couponing, health screening, stress management, and job readiness will be provided through 4 mini-workshops. Light refreshments will be served. There is no cost to attend and all residents within the community and surrounding areas are welcome. For more information call Susan Weber at 467-7156. "

May 17th is the All-American Soapbox Derby.

Events and Things to Do in the Bowling Green, KY area October 25-29. PLUS meet Dracula!

Dracula at the Artistic Soul Studio!
















This photo is of Dracula - who is making a special appearance on Monday through Wednesday nights next week at the Artistic Soul Studio (love that name), which is located at 1014 East 11th Street here in Bowling Green.

Yes, YOU can meet Dracula too, plus Draculina, his assistant. See the cool World Premier John Carpenter Movie Poster exhibit too.

The hours are 3-7 each night. They have all kinds of neat and super-cool collectible movie posters there. They also have an Etsy page here.

Thursday, October 25th
A free computer class is offered at the Bob Kirby branch library at 2 p.m. called Introduction to Mac <computing>. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252.

Another free computer class is at the Main branch library from 2-3 p.m - Learn a Language with Powerspeak. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

From the WKU Astro page: Tuesday October 25 7:00 p.m.is the WKU Planetarium Show. This is a free show. It is first-come, first served. Doors open 15 minutes before show time.

The WKU Chess Club meets at 6 p.m. at the Faculty House on the WKU Campus. 918-809-6278.

The Skatebox is having another Toys for Tots Drive from 6-8 p.m. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and get in free. 843-3394.

Friday, October 26th
Tea Squares has a Learn to Read Tea Leaves demonstration from 3-5 p.m. Tea Squares is located downtown on the Square at 906 State Street. 904-3889.

From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "10/26/12 The 2nd Annual NAMI ( National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Bowling Green Chili Supper and Auction will be held on Friday, October 26th at 5:30 pm, at the Bowling Green Fire Department, 625 East 6th Avenue ( corner of Chestnut Street). $5.00 for a bowl of chili, hotdog, chips, cookie. Children 12 and under $3.00. Fundraiser Auction starting at 7:00 pm. For more information call: Larry Gregory at 270-303-8232."

Saturday, October 27th
The All Aboard Series at the Historic RailPark and Train Museum is featuring ghost stories this morning at 8:30 a.m. 745-7317.

From the WKU Astro page: 2:00 p.m.is the WKU Planetarium Show. This is a free show. It is first-come, first served. Doors open 15 minutes before show time.

The Zombie Walk is today at 4 p.m. sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of BG. Dress up like a Zombie, makeup is available and prizes will be given out too. After the event, Zombieland will be shown a the Ballpark.

Also, the Monster Dash 5K is today at Keriakes Park at 7 p.m. which is a benefit for the Joseph's Hope Foundation. http://www.joeshope.org.

Also today is Girl's Day Out at the Sloan Convention Center on Wilkinson Trace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is free for guests/shoppers. They have a FB page too. More info? Contact Danielle at 791-4873.

The Aviation Heritage Park has an Open House today too from 10-4.

Jim Gill is giving a free concert today at 10:30 a.m. You can pick up your tickets at any Warren County library location.

The Corvette Museum is having a Museum Monster Mash today from 1-3. Find out more: 781-7973.

From the WCVK Community Happenings Page: "10/27/12 M & M Fundraiser Event for Hospice (In memory of Robert Steven Basham) will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lost River Elementary School, Bowling Green, Ky. There will be a chili supper, silent auction, bake sale, cake walk, games and music. All proceeds benefit Hospice of Southern Kentucky. For information on this event please call: 270-904-1936."

Is having a Chili Supper and Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 28th with chili supper starting at 5:00 pm and trunk or treat from 6:00 pm -7:00 pm. Monday, October 29th

The Artworks Annual Meeting is tonight at 6 p.m. at the 7th Street Fire Station. This meeting is a potluck meeting.

A talk by John Meacham is at 7:30 at WKU's Van Meter Hall. This talk is free.74505204. Mr. Meacham is a Pulitzer Prize winner and a TIME Editor.
