Fun events this week (October 24-30) in and near Bowling Green, Kentucky

Here is the new weekly "what's happening" update for the Betsyanne Events blog page.

I can only get a fraction of the events and things to do this week listed here. There is a LOT going on this week.

Both Jackson's Orchard and Chaney's Dairy Barn have events this month.


Jackson's Orchard has their Pumpkin Festival weekends this month. 2011 Pumpkin Festival - 5 Fall Weekends "Beginning Saturday, September 24 & Sunday, September 25 then every weekend through the end of October. Oct 1 & 2, Oct 8 & 9, Oct 15 & 16 and Oct 22 & 23. The month of October brings lots of excitement to the Orchard. With Halloween approaching, the color is Orange! You’ll find family fun every weekend for the five weekends before Halloween. That means Wagon Rides to the Pumpkin Patch, Pick-Your-Own Pumpkins, The Corn Maze, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Straw Castle, Face Painting, The Goat Ranch, and The Cider Slider, our Children’s Slide. Not to mention all the Great Food including the Jackson's Orchard Hot Dog Cart! Did we mention Caramel Apples?" 
Chaney's has Hayrides to the Pumpkin Patch every weekend in October for $1.00 per person. Their Corn Maze is open until the 31st, along with their Educational Farm Tours. Go to the site to learn more or call 843-5567.

Monday, October 24th
The Bob Kirby branch library has Toddler Time at 9:30 a.m. for ages 18-36 months and Kirby Kids today at 3:30 p.m. for elementary age children. 782-0252.


Tuesday, October 25th

Just added: tonight I will give a talk on "Search Secrets" at the Bowling Green Computer Club meeting (BGAMUG). The public is invited. Find out more: http://www.bgamug.com/.
 
The Bowling Green Junior Woman's Club will be having "Distribution Days" at the Bowling Green Hot Rods stadium for Coats For Kids. If a family needs coats, they can pick them up on the following dates at the stadium:
Tuesday, October 25, 9-11am
The Bowling Green main library has Toddler Time at 9:30 a.m. for ages 18-36 months at 9:30 a.m. and preschool Spanish at 11:30 a.m. 781-4882.
The Main branch Library has Spanish Explorers at 4 p.m. for ages K-6. They also have a Terrific Tuesdays Book Club today at 6:30 p.m. for ages 8 and up. This week they will discuss James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. 781-4882.
The Bob Kirby Branch library has a Teen Mystery event today at 6 p.m. at the Bob Kirby Branch library and a Fall Hiking Class from 6-7 p.m. Info: 782-0252.
From the Macaroni Kid site: Dr. Rachel Campbell and NASA present NASA's Year of the Solar System 7-8:30. The show is first come, first served. 
A free computer class, Learn Microsoft PowerPoint is today at 2-3:30 p.m. at the Main Branch library. You must pre-register to attend. They also have a free computer class, Facebook for Beginners, from 6-7:30 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882. 

Wednesday, October 26th
The WKU Chess club meets today from 9-12 noon at Barnes and Noble. The public is welcome. You may want to bring your chess set. Ask about it: 918-809-6278.
The Kirby branch library has Kirby Babies at 9:30 a.m. for 6-18 month children. 782-0252.

Preschool Storytime is held at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Branch, Bob Kirby, and Smiths Grove branch libraries today.
Kids Craft Time from 3-4 p.m. is held at the Smiths Grove branch library today.
A free computer class, Computing for Seniors, is today at the Main branch library. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

A free WKU concert is at 7:30 p.m. featuring Cory Renbarger, baritone, with Sharon Johnson, piano, at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center FAC 0189. Contact: Regina Daugherty, regina.daugherty@wku.edu.

Thursday, October 27th

The Graham Drive branch library has Teen Thursday at 5 p.m. for grades 6-12. 781-1441.
A free computer class, Coupons 101, is offered today at the Bob Kirby Branch library from 3-4 p.m. You must pre-register to attend. Call 782-0252. 
PTK has a play at the Phoenix Theater at 7 p.m., "It Was a Dark and Stormy Night." 781-6233.

The L & N Depot and the BG Libraries have a free event today at the Rail Park, Goblin Fest. You must pick up your free tickets before attending - - at the Museum Gift Shop at 401 Kentucky Street. 745-7317. There are a limited amount of tickets. 

The Skatebox Skate Center has a Toys for Tots night tonight. Bring a new unwrapped toy and get free admission and $1.00 skate rental. You don't have to pay skate rental if you bring your own skates. Call 843-3394.

Today is the Nat's Halloween XXVIII Outdoor Sports Amateur and Professional Disc Golf Tournament at Phil Moore and Hobson Grove Park. Find out more at the Golf website or the Yahoo Sports Page article by K.C. Dermody. (scroll down). This event continues tomorrow.

A support workshop to allow siblings to meet others, have a chance to express their feelings, and to make the day about them. The ALIVE Center at 1818 31-W offers an (East) Indian Culture and Heritage (ICH) and Language Class from 10 a.m. to 12 noon today at the ALIVE Center. Languages taught are Hindi, Gujarati and Telegu. More info: 270-746-9508 or 502-544-7221.

The next WKU Children's theater performance is on November 4-6. From the WKU site: NOVEMBER 4 – 6, 2011: Zink: the Myth, the Legend, the Zebra / By Cherie Bennett
Lab Theatre, Gordon Wilson Hall. Zink is a mythical polka dotted zebra, once an outcast, now a hero. Becky is a girl struggling with leukemia. November 11th: Remembrance Day National Roll Call, Location: MMTH Auditorium, Building: Mass Media & Technology Hall, Time: 9 am - 3:30 pm, Contact: Veterans Upward Bound 270-745-5008, Description: WKU faculty, staff and students will read the names of all U.S. soldiers that have died in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 10 years. The names of Kentucky’s war fatalities will be read starting around 3 pm.
 
November 15th: Noyce Scholar - SKyTeach Fall 2011 Seminar Series Location: Snell Hall B104, Time: 5 pm - 7 pm, Contact: denis.mujic@wku.edu 270-745-2565, Description: Open to all WKU faculty, staff, students and community members. Participants will receive professional development certificates. Refreshments will be provided.
WKU presents Amahl and the Night Visitors on November 17-20.
