Events and fun things to do this week in the BG, KY area: Tues. Aug. 30 - Sun. Sept. 4

Tuesday, August 30th
SKyPAC is having a Hard Hat Tour today at 4 p.m. They also have another on Thursday and every day after that. You must pre-register to attend. Call 393-0080.

Chaney's Dairy Barn's Corn Maze is open today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The price is $7.00 per person.  843-5567.

Crescent Lanes has a Senior Bowling Tournament today to allow long-term care residents to compete. The fee is $3.00 for two games. Call for more info: 393-3265 or 393-3480.

Library events today include Toddler time at 9:30 a.m. for ages 18-36 at the BG Main Branch library (781-4882), Preschool Spanish 11:30 p.m. ages 3-5 years at the Main Branch library (781-4882), and Spanish Explorers at the Main branch library at 4 p.m. (781-4882).

Wednesday, August 31st
The Welcome Back WKU Festival is today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at WKU's South Lawn. You can rent a booth here for $150.00. Call the Chamber at 781-3200 for more info. or to rent a booth.

Library events today include Kirby Babies at 9:30 a.m. for ages 6-18 months at the Bob Kirby Branch library (782-0252), Preschool Story Time at 10:30 a.m. for ages 3-5 at the Main branch library, Graham Troopers at 3 p.m. at the Graham Drive branch library (781-1441), and Wonderful Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m. at the Graham Drive branch library (781-1441)for Kindergarten age students through 6th grade).

Living Hope Baptist Church has a free Fall Back to School Concert at 6-9 p.m. featuring Jimmy Needham, Rush of Fools and The Advice. Seating is limited to the first 1200 attendees. 843-9462. A free Faculty clarinet concert by John Cipolla is at the WKU Fine Arts Center (VAC 189) Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. He will play "British and American Jazz-influenced" music. (per the Soky Calendar.)

Thursday, September 1st

Today is the 17th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum. The Museum has a Celebration from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 1-800-53-VETTE. This celebration also continues through the 3rd.

Via the What's Happening flyer from the http://www.visitbyky.com site: Riverview at Hobson Grove has a "The Cooking Class" event today at 1 p.m. You must have reservations to attend. There will also be a reading of a Louisa May Alcott short story.

The WKU Chess club meets from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the WKU Faculty House for all skill levels. You may need to bring your own chess set. Call for more info: 918-809-6278. The public is welcome. http://www.hilltopperchess.net.

The BG League of Bicyclists have an easy ride of 1 1/2 hour (mostly through residential areas) starting at Keriakes Park  at 6 p.m. You must wear a helmet. http://www.bglob.com.

Friday, September 2nd

Today is the Celebration of the 17th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum. Call for hours. 1-800-53-VETTE. This celebration also continues through the 3rd.

There is also Ice Cream and a Moo-vie today at dusk, tonight and tomorrow night. The movie is Gnomeo and Juliet. Admission is free, and Chaney's asks that nobody bring outside food or drink. You can bring a chair or blanket though. 

Saturday, September 3rd

Beech Bend has the finale of their Beech Bend Superstar today starting at 2:45 p.m. This event is included with your regular Beech Bend admission price. Find out more: 781-7634.

Also starting September 8th, WKU will present the play "Number the Stars."

Sept. 9th is a kickoff concert for the WKU Redshirts and Treblemakers at First Christian Church from 7:30 - 9 p.m. Admission is just $2.00 per person. Contact the music dept. for more info: 270-745-3751 or email Dr. Paul Hondorp at paul.hondorp@wku.edu.

Also on 9-10: (From the WCVK Community Happenings Page) "09/10/11 Food Drive, the need is still there to help feed a family on Saturday, September 10th 2011 from 9am-3pm. . Staff from WKU Public Radio, WKYU-PBS and volunteers will accept donations of canned food items at WalMart off Campbell Ln in Bowling Green. They will also accept cash contributions on behalf of the American Red Cross to purchase additional needed food items. All donations directly benefit those in need here in South Central KY. A shopping list of needed items to be donated will appear in the Daily News and will also be available at Walmart on Sat. the 10th. The list is also posted on the station website at WKYUPBS.org. Only food items listed will be accepted."
Sept. 16 and 17 is the last Ice Cream and a Moo-vie event at Chaney's for this year.  The movie will be Toy Story 3.

(From the WCVK Community Happenings Page)"09/17/11 Ovarian Cancer Awareness Seminar will be September 17, 2011 at Christ Episcopal Church at 1215 State St in Bowling Green, KY. The Graves Gilbert Clinic and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center of Louisville, KY will sponsor an ovarian cancer awareness seminar to educate women to the early signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Registration is by September 12, 2011. Pick up a registration form at Christ Episcopal Church or email OCAS@insightbb.com and leave a name and phone number. A suggested registration fee of $10 pays for breakfast treats and lunch served on site."
Sept 17 The Vette City Vixens play the Rollergirls Of Central Kentucky and Hot Broads play Naptown Third Alarm (at home) at the Skate Box in Bowling Green.
Sept. 17th is also the Anansi Marionette show at the Capital Arts Center at 5 p.m.
