Hints on How to Save Money on Food - part One

I’ve been trying to save money on food lately. I know that most times, cooking at home can save a LOT of money – especially when compared with eating out.

I have cookbooks I used to use a lot more than I do now. It saves me a lot of time to look up recipes online using a simple search or by going to my favorite recipe site, RecipeZaar. Otherwise, I’m not always sure I know what recipe is going to be where in which cookbook.

I have started clipping coupons now, too, instead of just piling up the coupons and saying I would look at them someday. I subscribe to the Daily News, so every Sunday I can check out the coupon section and see what is there. Sometimes they have contests in-between the coupon offers, too. Some days they have coupons in the regular section, too, with 2-for-one deals sometimes.

There are coupon sites online that I plan to check out soon. I have an article about these at the end of this short article. It’s from the Smart Money site, which is part of the Wall Street Journal site.

The trick is to get things with coupons that you know you will actually eat or use. Plus, some stores around BG offer Double Coupons. I know Kroger does. And many times when there is a new product, the store will already offer it at a reduced price. A coupon makes your price even smaller, especially if you are not afraid to try something new.

A friend once told me her secret. “Just get your coupons ready,” she said, “and then check out the sale flyers they give in the newspaper. Then go to the place with the lowest price on whatever you are buying.” My friend went to several stores instead of just one, but she always found the cheapest deals on food. She planned ahead, and saved a lot.

Do you have some money-saving ideas to share? Just leave them as a comment here. Thank you!
