Hi to all!  I list weekly selected events, plus other things to do in the Bowling Green, Kentucky area and sometimes in Nashville or surrounding communities.

Chaney's Dairy Barn has Family Farm Tours on Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost is $7.00 per person. 843-5567, http://www.chaneysdairybarn.com.

From the Kentucky Literary Newsletter #225: "The Kentucky State Poetry Society is now accepting submissions for their annual poetry competition.  See www.kystatepoetrysociety.org/Contests.html for entry guidelines.  Deadline is June 30. 

The Kentucky Women Writers Conference is now accepting submissions for the 2011 Gabehart Prize. Three prizes are awarded --- poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Each winner receives $200, two 2-day passes to the conference, and the opportunity to read her winning manuscript at the conference.  Access the guidelines and entry form here."

May and June Squirrels in the Square:
Find 6 squirrels at participating shops in Fountain Square through the 31st of each month and win a big, big Surprise Basket filled with neat things. Just find 6 squirrels at shops downtown.

Art Shows, Art Classes, and Exhibitions
Memphis Marsha's is having an exhibit, Observations: Real and Imagined" from June 3rd through August 5th.

An ArtWorks members group exhibition is going on through July 29th at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center 2nd Floor Gallery. 745-6125.

The works of Hai Ri Han and Kim Jones are showing in the Mezzanine (upstairs) at the Capital Arts Center this month through the 28th.

Donn Mierti (photographer) has an exhibit at the Main Branch library in May in the Porter Cafe. 781-4882.

Photographs from Safe Haven will continue to be shown from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the ArtsAccess Gallery at 515 East 10th Ave., BG. Monday through Friday. 781-0872.

The VSA Arts Access Gallery continues "The Artist Within" in June through the 24th. They are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

The VSA Art exhibit is at the Main Branch Library's Porter Cafe this month.

GARDEN PLOTS / SPRING BREAK CAMP / WATERPARK PASSES: Signups are going on for BG Parks and Rec Garden Plots at Keriakes Park 393-3249, BG Parks and Rec Spring Break Camps 393-3249, and Russell Sims Water park passes, 393-3249. If you want a garden plot, register early because these run out fast. (They already may be full...)

Monday, June 6thRussell Sims Aquatic Center has a 1/2 price special today from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Bring a Pepsi bottle or can or a coupon. Call 393-3249 for more info. 

At 6:00, you can join in a Summer Stroll with Bowling Green Staff and Officials at the Riverbend Landing community. 393-3674.

From 6-9 p.m. at 430 Center Street, you can learn about Disaster services. You must pre-register with the Red Cross to attend. Call 781-7377.

A free computer class is today from 6-7 p.m. at the Main Branch library: Intermediate Computers and the Internet. You must pre-register to attend. Call 781-4882.

Harley Jane Kozak is speaking Thursday, June 9th at the Warren County Public Library at 6 p.m. Free tickets are available at all Public Library locations.
Chaney's Dairy Barn Ice Cream and a Moovie starts June 10th at dusk.
June 10th is also Civilian Tea Time at Riverview at Hobson Grove.

Sunburst Youth Theater Day Camp 2011 will take place June 6-17.
Beatlemadness is June 17th at the Capital Arts Center. For tickets call 270-846-2426, or 855-232-1452 (toll-free) 
June 21st (Tuesday) author Karen Kingsbury will speak at First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Free tickets will be at any local public library location. 781-4882.
June 25 is the Vette City Roller Derby: VCRD vs. Black-N-Bluegrass A & B team (HOME)  

July 17th from 2-4pm is Geocaching 101: Hiding a Cache at Lost River Cave.
September 24th is the date of the International Festival from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Circus Square Park.




From the WCVK Community Happenings page: "Now - 05/30 During the month of May, the Men's Ministry of Living Hope Baptist Church are collecting blankets for the persecuted Christians and people of Sudan; in honor of Moms & Wives.
