Here are some fun events in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky
for the first part of September.
Note: these events are not all free. 
Please be sure to check every event before attending, just in case. 
Some events require pre-registration.


From Chaney's Dairy Barn's Facebook page: "Chaney's Corn Maze now open. $6/person. Open during regular business hours. Please bring your own flashlight for evening trips thru the maze - everyone must be out of the maze by 9pm. When you pay inside the Dairy Barn you'll receive a Corn Maze game card to take with you thru the maze - complete & return it to the Dairy Barn for a free scoop of ice cream in a cup or plain cone! The Photo contest for the Historic Railpark is this month, from now until October 30th. Cash prizes will be awarded. $15 entry fee will be required. Find out more at 745-7317 or go to the website at http://www.historicrailpark.com/.
 
Friday, September 17th

From the WBKO Community Events page: "Warren Co. Community Needs Assessment Sept. 17, 2010. 9 am. Boys and Girls Club, 260 Scott Way, Bowling Green, KY 42101.
Community Action of Southern Kentucky, Inc. invites the public to learn more about the Agency’s services for low-income individuals on September 17, 9:00 am at the Boys and Girls Club, 260 Scott Way, Bowling Green, KY 42101. This event will provide an opportunity for local Warren County citizens to suggest services they would like to see offered for low-income families and individuals. For more information, please contact Randy Upchurch, County Coordinator in Warren County at 270-782-4437."
The Bowling Green AARP meeting is today at 11:30 - 1:30 at First Christian Church in BG. The Fall Flower sale and a talk by Lena Mulcahy about Entourage Management are on the agenda. Call 842-2832 for more info.
The Parade of Homes is today. Tickets are $10.00 each. Call 781-3375 or see http://www.bascky.com for the tour list.
The Walking Horse Show is today at 6 p.m. at the WKU Ag Expo Center. Call 745-3976 for more info.
Chaney's Dairy Barn Ice Cream and a Moo-vie is at dusk tonight at Chaney's. The movie, Madagascar 2, is free. 843-5567. http://www.chaneysdairybarn.com.
Also today is the Natcher Fall Festival, 1434 Cave Mill Road, from 5-8. Support the kids - proceeds will benefit instructional accounts at the school. Whitt's Barbeque will be there as well as games, a silent auction, treats, pony rides, and more.

Saturday, September 18th
Today is the TrashMasters Classic, held at Barren River Lake State Park. This is a fun event that cleans up the lake. There are prizes and lunch for those who help. Find out more by calling 270-646-2055. I have been at this event and really liked it. Also, if you have a boat or pontoon boat let them know in advance so you can help even more.
The Alzheimer's Memory Walk is today. Registration is at 9 a.m. at Preston Miller Park. See http://www.alz.org or call 84207540. 
You can see the Big Brown Truck Pull today at 10 a.m. It is free to spectators and is a fundraiser for Special Olympics. It is at Circus Square park at 10 a.m. Call 393-3249 to sponsor a team.
More information from the WCVK site "Now-9/18 Teams are needed to compete in The Big Brown Truck Pull, a fundraiser for the Special Olympics Athletes of Bowling Green/Warren County. Teams of 15 will pull a UPS 18-wheeler a distance of 12 feet. The team with the fastest time will be the official champs. Competition will be at Circus Square, Bowling Green, Sept. 18. Sponsor a 15 member team or a team member. For more information call 393-3249."
 Also coming up on the 18th is the BG Cumberland Presbyterian Church's Kuntry Store. From the WCVK site: "9/18/10 Bowling Green Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 807 Campbell Lane, will have their Kuntry Store, Sept. 18, 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served. There will also be a silent auction and bake sale. For more information call 781-3295."
Symphony Day! A free concert happens today at Jackson's Orchard featuring the Symphony at WKU plus local High School orchestras and students in the pre-college program. 10 a.m. -12 noon. Check out http://www.bgwso.com or or call 745-7681 for more information.
Potter Children's Home has their Fall Festival today from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 843-3038.

Sunday, September 19th
Today is the Southern Kentucky Team Penning at 10:30 a.m. at the WKU Ag Expo Center. Call 745-3976 to find out more.
The PTK Goes California fundraising event is today at 5 p.m. This is a fine art auction event at the home of Rick and Barbara Ball. Tickets are required. Call 781-6233.
From the WBKO article: "The fundraiser will feature a California theme, complete with a California wine tasting overseen by wine expert Blake Layne of Chuck Evans Liquors, cocktails, a California-inspired buffet, West Coast tunes and a viewing of Peridot Pictures historic film “Beauty of the Southland” and clips of PTK’s past productions."
Monday, September 20th
A free adult computer class is today at the BG Main library. Call 781-4882 to pre-register. This class will be about MS for Beginners.
BG Main library will also hold a Write Sketch Watch program for teens at 6:00. 
 
The WKU Chess club meets tonight at 6-9 p.m. at the Faculty House at WKU behind Cherry Hall at the log cabin. and is open to the public and all skill levels. Bring your own chess set. 
Tuesday, September 21st
A Free adult computer class is at the Main Library at 6-7 p.m.: Introduction to Computers for Spanish Speakers. Must pre-register. Call 781-4882. 

Wednesday, September 22nd is World Car-Free Day. If possible, do not drive today.  (I just found out about this today on Facebook...) From the Facebook page: "Celebrate World Car-Free Day by going all day without driving or riding in a car. Take the bus, ride your bike, walk, stay at home, whatever you like as you go about your normal routine. Click on "Attending" (on the Facebook page here) if you are willing to give it a try. See http://www.worldcarfree.net/wcfd/ for more information."

From WCVK Radio's Community Happenings page: "9/24/10 Christian Care Communities Senior Flu Clinic will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 716 Cave Mill Rd., Bowling Green, Sept. 24, 9-11 a.m. Paperwork will be filed for Medicare Part B recipients. Cost for all others is $25. For more information call 842-4343."
"9/25/10 All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast benefiting South Warren Girls’ Soccer Team will be Sept. 25, 7-11 a.m. Tickets are $4 for pancakes, bacon & sausage, oj, and coffee. For more information call 320-6119."
"9/25/10 St. John United Methodist Church, 2160 Griffith Ave., Owensboro, will have their Craft Fair Sept. 25, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be vendor booths, food, and silent auction. Booth rental space is available. For more information call 683-6326."
The International Festival is going to be held on September 25th, 9-7 at Circus Square Park, 601 State Street.  The theme this year is A World of Traditions. From the website: "Information booth opens 7:30 a.m., Opening/Awards Ceremony 9:30 a.m., Vending begins 9 a.m. Performances begin 9:30 a.m., Festival closes 7 p.m." You can go to the website for a $1.00 off coupon to print out.
Also opening September 25th is the Skeleton's Lair Haunted Woods and Hayride, 270-622-8171.

 The Twilight Thunder Cruise is Saturday, October 2nd. From The District event page: "On Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 6:30pm-9:00pm, the South Central Kentucky Kids on the Block will be hosting their annual Twilight Thunder Cruise. The event will start with a motor cycle parade from Harley Davidson to Circus Square Park. For more information call 270-842-2259." 
The Bowling Green Gallery Hop is back on October 15th from 5-8 p.m. and Dec. 3rd.
John Carter Cash will be in Bowling Green on October 21st as part of the library's My Life is an Open Book series. Free tickets to this are available at the Main library and also at the Kirby branch. The Lost River Cave Civil War: Living History Days is back October 22-24, 2010 at Lost River Cave. This is a free event. Make sure to bring earplugs if you go when they will be firing a cannon.
